Living in SoCal in an apartment setting, EV’s don’t make sense at all for my wife and I as we are not allowed to have a charger installed in our detached parking garage. Now if apartments started allowing charging stations to be installed, that would be a different story. I think EV’s serve their purpose for day to day people who work somewhat close to home, but they aren’t very practical at all for long distance road trips or towing / hauling. Especially in other states.

Tell me which manufacturers have decided not to sell ICE vehicles due to California’s new law.

I never once said that. Did you even read my posts? Like at all? I said you won’t be able to buy a new gas powered vehicle in 2035 in California…

To which I've already said it (the law) really doesn't have anything to do with what you are bitching about. It's a market decision. Look at Buick. Look at Dodge.

You not being able to buy a new ICE car past 2035 is largely being driven by market conditions. Your anger, again, is misplaced.

It's not that you're not going to be able to not buy an ICE vehicle in California in 2035, it's that you're not going to be able to buy one anywhere. You're just taking a not-so-veiled shot at the politics in your state and not being aware of the situation as a whole.

Well this thread seems to be like most internet threads.

I have a Tacoma and a Tesla. Having an electric vehicle is amazing in the right setting. We charge at home, have solar and I drive a ALOT, so it makes tons of sense. I've driven it from Northern California to Arizona a couple of times. Charging is a minor PIA, but then when I see that a 1400 mile trip cost me less than $100 in charging, the extra maybe 90 minutes total for the trip are fine.

At the same time, I have to drive to Oregon in a couple weeks, the charging situation on that route is more difficult so I'll take the Tacoma.

Electric vehicles will not fully take over until we can build up the charging infrastructure for long trips.

I’d argue that the lack of continued development and production plans for ICE vehicles is a direct result of the governments around the world. It has far less to do with what the average car buyer wants and even less with any environmental purposes. The car manufacturers have seen the writing on the walls for many years that clearly indicates the future of ICE vehicles to be limited as a result of government laws and mandates. They are developing EVs and stopping development/production of ICE in order to be financially stable and competitive in that future market.

You’re arguing just to argue at this point. Your ignorance is hilarious. You said that I was saying manufacturers were not going to sell ICE vehicles due to CA’s law. Never once did I say that. All I said was you won’t be able to buy a new ICE vehicle in CA in 2035. That’s literally all I said. When it comes down to it all politics aside, it depends on which new legislature is pushed forward

It's good business to study and try to extrapolate what might happen. But if there wasn't a profit to be made here, you could guarantee that the money behind the scenes would prevent it.

There's a reason why Tesla does pretty well in spite of the QC issues and the douchebag running it - it's cool. It's the biggest front-facing product enhancement in the field in generations. Automobile ownership and trends with youth have been on a downward spiral. What better way to capture some imagination with the next generations than gadgets, not having to use gasoline, and be (arguably) better for the environment? You'll notice that these vehicles are carrying a premium over their ICE counterparts.

The manufacturers are on board because there's profit in it. A shitload, once you get past the initial startup costs.

    So?

You’re getting bent out of shape applying conditions that exist today to a scenario that isn’t happening for 12 years.

    12.

A lot changes in 12 years. Priorities change, conditions change, tastes change.
