This one hasn’t devolved into that crap fest yet.

    I give it an hour.

I’d summon the morons but I think they’re still looking for new hand bags for their next purse fight.

I don't want to sound mean and not environmentally friendly but I'm just not buying in to the electric vehicle thing for every use yet.
    Some issues need resolved.
    Battery replacement and recycling
If it's a truck or suv towing and range.
Charging whilst towing now requires disconnecting the trailer to get to the charging station. If I have to charge every 100 miles or so that's a complete deal breaker.

I feel like a good compromise would be a Tacoma that could tow my camper or haul a load on gasoline and have say 40 or 50 miles of plug in electric range to do my commute and weekly trips on mostly electric.

The honest facts are we don’t have the electrical grid to support total vehicle electrification and won’t any time soon. When and if we get to that point, gasoline will become a niche market product, with an ever-diminishing number of buyers, so will become an insanely expensive commodity for the few remaining “gasoline hobbyists”, who will have to support all of the refining costs to keep their ‘57 Chevy running. These hobbyists will be ordering gasoline deliveries to their home tank as the gas stations will be no more.

We will likely all have to “go with the flow” and follow the en-masse changes, but not anytime soon.

My wife’s Prius still has the original battery. 2008, 200+k on the odo. I thought it was going to be an expensive vehicle to maintain, it has not been.

Yes. But not yet. The build-out isn’t even close to what it will require. We can barely power the air conditioners in California, as is.

Not insurmountable, but it will take time. Solar is a key component, for sure.

Yeah everything you said is correct too along with the reasons why I said we aren't ready.
Gas becoming a hobbyists thing is a long way off. I really feel that's true. Hybrid is probably the best we can manage now. Our country is also so vast too. Imagine how range would be an issue on evs in places like Montana where towns and inferstructure are far apart.

I see that Toyota Hybrid batteries seem to have a long life but there are reports of other EV batteries not lasting as long and costing more than the cars value to replace.

My grandfather was a member of the GM team that developed their airbag (metallurgical engineer) back in the mid-60s. The cost of a single airbag was about a third to half of the price of the car. 30 years later airbags were becoming standard equipment.

Today, our vehicles are full of them.

Sure, EV batteries are expensive now…but they won’t always be.

I look forward to the day where I can do the electric equivalent of an LS-swap; electrify a classic car affordably.

That might be so but some things will need to change some. Battey technology and chemistry will likely need to advance a good bit. Some of the minerals in the battery packs now are things we don't have unlimited amounts of available.

Not being a jerk just realistic.
