    Hey everyone,

Any recommendation to go with SUNGtop or Leer camper shell? I like to put a rack system on it in the future. Seems Leer has options for a Thule roof rack system. Are there any gotcha's I need to be aware of?

    Cheers,
    Christoph

I have the same truck as you and have been looking around myself. Thule racks can be mounted on the snugtop as well. Lots of threads out there I think ultimately it just boils down to making a decsion on what you like. There are positives and negative comment on every cap. I will say though I think from all I have read, the general consensus leans more towards snugtop with leer and ARE in second and then some of the others are just scattered in the mix like century or vista.

I've been driving around with a snug top on 3 different tacoma's for 15 years. I don't think I'll buy another brand of shell ever. I have a Snugtop XV and it has a Yakima rack system. I think Thule and yakima are pretty comparible, but I've never owned thule. I would get the fold down window, which makes it really easy to clean because let's face it, when it rains etc. The window needs to be cleaned.

Parts are pretty to easy to get for Snugtop and I think most come from california anyway.

I would suggest looking for a clean used shell... I know that you have a new truck and want a quality shell, but they are out there. My shell ran 2300.00 new, and I paid 800.00. I let the the guy who bought it get the rush of a new shell and I get the rush of saving 66 %.

Go Snugtop and I don't think you'll ever be sorry.

I have a Leer and love it. Snugtop is not a very popular manufacturer in my area. Leer and ARE are the popular shells here.

Go to each dealership and check out the models in person. If the styles and options are close, I say base the decision on price.

I've had a SnugTop SuperSport on my 07 Offroad since the truck was about a month old. It's held up great...no complaints. I'd advice getting the fold down front window for ease of cleaning. The window comes with a slider that matches up with the slider on the truck...great for long fishing poles!

If we based everything on price we would have bought Ford Rangers:eek:
