    You’re an idiot if you think being on top of a vehicle gives you more reaction time against a Grizzly. Save yourself, think more.

    Fact. Bears hate sand. It's coarse and gets everywhere.

    Conclusion: camp on South Padre. No bears.

    That overhang is absurd on so many levels. The ladder, to my knowledge, is not designed to be load bearing so when you climb in and out you’re going to stress the frame pretty heavily.

    As others have stated, this needs to go up and over the cab.

    https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/transportation-code/transp-sect-547-382.html

    (a) A vehicle transporting a load that extends to the rear at least four feet beyond the bed or body of the vehicle shall display on the extreme end of the load at the times specified in Section 547.302(a):

    (1) two red lamps visible at a distance of at least 500 feet from the rear;

    (2) two red reflectors that indicate the maximum width and are visible at nighttime at all distances from 100 to 600 feet from the rear when directly in front of lawful lower beams of headlamps;  and

    (3) two red lamps, one on each side, that indicate the maximum overhang and are visible at a distance of at least 500 feet from the side.

    It's less than 4 feet beyond the body, so no flags or lights are needed.
    This is Texas law, might be different elsewhere. But a lot of places are similar, it can extend up to a few feet before you need flags or lights.

    Back in for sure

    :thumbsup:

    Seems like an expensive tent mounted wrong.

    I made mine out of unistrut, but mine are just flat bars no uprights. I have seen some unistrut racks that go up to cab height though.

    If that were me I'd get it up over the cab. This is why I went with a clamshell tent - first of all, so much cheaper. Second of all, I also have a short bed...and know what will and won't work properly...

    just put some foam boobies on the overhanging corners, better visibility and edge safety
