Dash cam opinion

My Dash Cam 56 is 1440p resolution and 140 degree field of view. Here are a few sample images that I saved from some old videos I had on my computer. I did not hit the Audi that thought he/she owned the road..

Note that you will need to buy a MicroSD card for the camera to store its videos on.

 

I read the same. On different reviews with pics, everything look round. The $30 different from the Garmin dash cam models. I don't know if it worth it.

Does video resolution matters?



It does seems like theirs much differences between the 47, 57, 67W models.

 

I just bought the fitcamx both front and rear. Can Update when I get it installed.

 

I like 140 degrees viewing angle better.

I don't know if the truck windshield makes it look worst.

 

I doubt that the windshield really affects it. It's probably just the shape of the camera lens to get that fish eye effect. I noticed that that chart you posted shows that they come with an SD card now. I'm not sure if that's true or not I don't remember mine coming with an SD card. But in any case you would probably want bigger than 16 GB that the chart says it comes with.

By the pictures on Best Buy the dash cam shows a picture of a sd card on the cam itself to show where to insert the sd card.

I think the truck picture of the dash cam, The dash cam was mounted further back away from the windshield. If it was mounted closer it may not be so round looking.

The Garmin 47, 57, 67W all have about the same specs. The 47 has a weaker resolution. Is resolution that important?

 

Higher resolution is better, as well as higher frame rate. Also low light performance is important for night time use. Just be aware that sometimes the cheapo no-name manufacturers may "fudge" their numbers to sell their product.

 

Look like if I get the Garmin the 57 might be the best bet. I like the 140 viewing better. It has the higher resolution than the 47 model. The SD card max is 512 GB. I can get it local.

 

By having the screen built into the mirror. Does it obstruct view?

Some people like watching dash cam screen, some constantly like looking behind them.

 

A thing to note about the sd card that I learned after a recent accident. They fail over time due to the constant deleting old unlock files to perform the continuous recording. A bigger size card I would think would reduce the chances but I would replace the card every so often.

when I needed footage I didn’t get any due to this problem which I learned about from asking around. Also try to make sure the camera works every so often. My fault for not checking and thankfully liability was placed on the other driver after a lengthy process.

 

Picking a dash cam doesn't have to be a difficult decision, but given the amount of cheap knock off devices out there, it makes it difficult when a knockoff or two performs well. No one wants to spend $500 on a camera that may never actually benefit them, and you may pay for functions you don't need. On the opposite spectrum, you may buy a $100 cam that says it does what you want, then learn the hard way it didn't when you needed it most. I highly recommend Blackboxmycar when someones looking for a dash cam. They generally seem to sell the mid/high range brands, and although you may not want to spend it, its worth it when you have an incident and need the support. Most importantly, you should decide what features are "must haves" and narrow down your picks accordingly. "Parking mode" on one cam means something entirely different than another cam often times.

Edit to add, I have some sort of flavor of Thinkware front/rear.

 

In terms of obstructing the view. Mine is installed on the exterior so my view is huge with no in cab obstructions. However, as a result of the LCD screen its really not a mirror at all so no reflection or the ability to see the back seat in the mirror. My kids are all teenagers. I am one of those that is always checking the rearview when I'm driving so having the rear cam outside on the roof rack gives a huge field of view. I'm at the point where when I drive my other cars I hate the rearview mirror because of how limited the view is.

My one gripe is the lack of a mirror/reflection, sometimes I eat in the truck and I would like to make sure there is no leftover food in my beard before communicating with clients. I use the flip down now.

Is all of your cams are outside of the vehicle? I read some members here mount their cams near their 3rd brake light. In which I thought it will block some view because of the tailgate. Where some people mount their cam to the tailgate.

There's a lot fake reviews. Since this is my first dash cam I want opinions from people that has one with experience using them.

There's a lot of idiots on the road. I've seen old people accidentally knock their car out of drive and go through a busy roadway. I don't want a cam to fail on me when I need it the most. Then there's the screen resolution. It's so much easier look directly at the screen to see where the cam is pointing at.

With the options I like sometimes there's no choice what the other options are. I have to get what is offered.

I bought that one after a recommendation from a couple of members on here. I think it might have been @Bannerman who posted pictures.

I like it well enough that I plan to get the one with the rear camera for the family hauler.

I also had originally planned for the viofo a119 (I think v2 at the time), but found a pretty solid deal on a thinkware front/rear cam. I had always planned to still go the viofo route for something more budget friendly to stick in my wife's car, but never did.

What exact features are a "must have" for you? As far as having a screen to look at, I never understood the point, but I could see why it'd be preferred if the particular brand didn't have good app support. For my thinkware, it has built in wifi that I can pair my phone to. That allows me to view a live feed to "set it and forget it" to get the angle and view I want, and also view/download clips on my phone wirelessly. I had a truck break in, and had the clips downloaded to my phone before police even arrived. No need to fool around with SD cards and computers just to pull a clip (although it obviously has a microSD card in it for storage, and thats still an option). There's really a few key features you should decide if you want, and then you can really narrow down your choices alot. What features can't you live without? Another thing to consider is power supply; some cams come with a hardwire kit, some just plug into your cig lighter, and some are truly not even worth the money if you aren't going to use an external battery pack (example: a cam that excels in parking mode, and is only decent resolution/slimmer angle/etc; if you don't care about parking mode, a super expensive cam known for its parking mode features might not be your best all around choice).

I use dual cams, both Viofo and Blackvue. Cheap cameras have battery failures, so I went with Premium Cams.

Often just supplying that video to your insurance company is worth it, often they will waive your liability and it is a clear case of what happened.

A friend's daughter was T-boned by a redlight runner. The other driver apologized, was texting, and ran the red. The cop arrived on the scene, talked with both, and said
