Buys wrong truck, then willing to spend more then half of purchase price on upgrading the engine, then tells us he couldn’t wait for a v-6, perfect.

Regear it. Should be somewhat easy if youve got tools and a place to work it

Dude 2TRFE gets a CAST IRON engine block u id wager that it would fare better from shock cooling effects from high water as opposed to aluminum blocks. Still more of a truck engine than the v6. Dude even my v6 tacoma it gets sluggish with people and cargo in the bed. Dont even get me started on the marginal performance of it in 4H, add that to high altitude performance above 3000 ft? Yeah might as well just be a 4 cyl under there. Usually have to get it up to 4600 rpm for maximum torque which is a little annoying in mud and snow because im not trying to dig deeper im trying to get power to get out, but there just isn’t power at low rpm. I myself am looking at a regear for my v6.

So if it struggles in 4hi why not use 4 low?

4hi is not meant for low speed driving, or getting unstuck. Your truck came with lower gears if you chose to use them.

    I can’t believe no one suggested a 2JZ-GTE swap.

Yeah thats what the idea is but in practice sometimes it just doesn’t work that well because ill be in a position where i start out in 4L to get out of a situation then the speed will just be too fast for it so i have to stop to switch to 4H. Obviously its pretty rare for such a situation but often times i wish i had a bit more torque in 4H. Not to mention the 3.91s dont help it

Trying to understand what the issue is here. I do this quite often where I would stop and switch to 4low if the trail is getting technical, that’s what it’s there for?
    :notsure:

Regearing won’t help you in 4hi at low speeds. You are asking for impossible, can’t have a bunch of torque in 4hi with a 3.5L at low speeds.
