Fine folks and or anyone that can help, I am new to the Tacoma world and loving it. Anyway the truck makes an odd sound as if I have large knobby off-road tires on and vibration in the steering wheel starting at 30MPH and going away at about 45 MPH. It is not engine related but rolling related but also goes away when in 4H... I thought wheel bearing to a degree due to the rolling aspect but the 4H side make me wonder at it again. Any thoughts from you more senior owner or better mechanics?

It's your needle bearing. ECGS makes a replacement, which is commonly necessary for lifted trucks and presents basically exactly with your symptoms and goes away in 4Hi.

Perhaps it's the famous driver side axle needle bearing failure?

Search 'ecgs bushing' for symptoms from others and the fix.

Sounds like something I can easily correct, I elected for the "lift" kit Toyota offer so all my warranties are still in place, do you know if it is something that can be seen as wrong or is it a you have to rip parts out and inspect them kind of wrong... You know what if you want to answer cool but I to shall look this up.

I'd take it back to the dealer and let them know your aware of the bearing problem and the ECGS bushing fix. They might do it for you.

So yep after looking thing up with the name I never would have used to find the Info with, it seems certain that it is the needle bearing, I will schedule an appointment for warranty service and if they agree I will bring an ECGS clamshell to replace it with.

Even though the ECGS bushing isn't much I'd still try to get the dealer to pay for it. If not tell them you'll buy the bushing, and they can put it in.

That is the idea, hopefully they will even better if they have them in stock as odd as that might be.

The only problem I see is you're asking the dealer to install a non oem part, which they probably won't do.

Fair and true, they might... But if not oh well they can stick another bandaid on it and I will go to another shop.
