Why waste effort on a hose clamp? Just lock your tailgate.

    "1) live rural"

If you live in city, do NOT come to the rural areas, we are full. No more from CA & NY cities especially. Reap what you folks already sewed

Yeah. I have pretty deep family roots in California, but ultimately left the Bay Area about six months before COVID became a thing (whew!). It's sad to see what the state has become and how it only continues to deteriorate.

Hose clamp is for those times when you forget to lock the tailgate, or you have it down when hauling stuff.

People don’t choose where they are born. I bet you’re the kind of dude who talks a lot about his ‘freedoms’, or do those only apply to you and not the rest of the people in this country?

I am thinking you're right, place is changing rapidly. My wife from blue collar town in MT, had ~20,0000 new folks move in over the last two years, high majority from CA. I am sure as hell not going there.

I've got a COMBO of both rural & urban experiences since 2006...and I work in a hospital as a supply dude!

I see all walks of life here in Kent County; everyone has their own business to tend to and carry on without trouble--for the most part.

Heck, there's Amish folk I see pull up in a horse & buggy at Walmart. I think it's awesome to see that type of religion/culture here.

Growing up in L.A. near where this stolen tailgate took place, I've experienced the city life...albeit from grade school to graduation from L.A. Wilson in 1985.

I seem to blend well with the local yokels even with my city background. We are going to a Delaware polling place tonight to vote! (So, I'm a local Yokel to the max!) That is such a California phrase..."grody to the max!"

I think it helped that I had a cultured life in the military.

    Phoenix, AZ
    England for 2 assignments
    Abilene, TX
    Honolulu, HI
    Ramstein, Germany
    Dover, DE
    Aviano, Italy

With some temporary tours in Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, Sweden, Crete, Spain, and Iraq.

    I'm liking the urban/rural lifestyle I'm currently living...probably because I'm older now.

If you're hauling things resting on the lowered tailgate, it won't get stolen. Otherwise, just lock it. It's no different than locking your car.

Please. Locking your tailgate is no different than locking your car door.

    uhhhhh, sure.

Thieves know that whenever something is resting on a lowered tailgate, they are not allowed to steal it.

Confirmation bias. If you already hate a place and hear about something awful happening there, it just reinforces your feelings
