I ended up with the dumb version of that, no Wi-Fi or battery backup. I’ll finish up the install tomorrow, have to move the perforated angle to another truss to hang the motor. I guess my last one was sized for an 8’ door for some reason.

I could squeeze them in the shop at home but it would be tight, I think the biggest reason I don’t have them is my boss will let me use the ones at work anytime and it’s less than 15 minutes away.

I might be late to the party, but if you have a torsion style spring, I recommend a side mount opener!

This one was $399 at Menard's...

EDIT: Well crap I'm late to the party yet again...

    I hate those springs.

The installer tried to put a 7 foot opener on my 8 foot door when the garage was built. We had a heated discussion about it as he didn't want to make the hour drive to get the right one but finally saw things my way.

Another Rusty's Archives item, not wrench related but neat for the artwork and window to the past.

That is the Woolworth building, built in 1913 and still stands in NYC, it was the tallest building in the world until 1930 when the Chrysler building was built.
It has its own ZIP code.

It was literally my only option in my case with the low clearance. I had to special order a 6' 9" (heh) by 9' wide door and the only way to have an opener was to go torsion style spring. I keep it lubed up every month and a half or so.

That’s interesting, I’ve only seen side openers on roll up type doors.

I don’t think that would work too well. I’m really not sure why mine was an 8' opener, must have been what they originally put in when the house was built

Torsion springs are the norm these days. When they let go, all they do is spin on the shaft. No real danger when the spring breaks.

With that said, the jack shaft openers are very nice ...when there is limited headroom for a conventional opener. They work great.

Check your requirements before purchasing .
