Help me choose groomsmen gifts

I'm getting married in mid July. I have 6 groomsmen ranging from age 17 to 23. None of them smoke and only one of them drinks. I was thinking about getting them each a knife with their name engraved on it. I was wondering if that is a typical and/or decent groomsmen gift (I've never been in a wedding before). Don't want to spend more than $15 per gift.

What kind of gift should I give?
Is my $15 per gift budget too little (for a poor college student lol)?

 

When you are getting married you have to buy gifts for your groomsmen??? lol.

IMO being asked to be a groomsmen is more than enough.

I had no idea that groomsmen were "supposed to" get small gifts too. I didn't know until my mom asked what what I was getting them. At first I wasn't going to get anything, but two of them are using their tax returns to come to the wedding so I figured why not.

 

A leatherman (multitool)

 

I agree. You can get one of the keychain size Leatherman tools for around $15 - $20. I have one of these & use it all the time and it's compact enough to carry in bluejeans or dress pants.

 

I got each groomsman something different. One got a fishing reel he wanted because he was a fisherman, one got a box of his favorite cigars and I forget what I got the third but I tried to give each one something personal for about the same amount of money as they others.

 

You know how you can save a lot of money??? Don't do it!!!! LOL

 

I was a groomsman twice, once we all got an engraved flask with a leather wrapping (probably a little over your price range but you could do something similar), the other time we all got Swiss luggage bags (definitely out of the price range). The leatherman is a good idea, or engraved beer mug or shot glass. You know your groomsmen best so you should get a gift that suits them.

 

I looked into the leatherman multi tool knives. They seem a bit pricey but their reviews are really good. I found this for pretty cheap. I'll definitely consider it

Ideally, I'll get one of those, but I'll put off the groomsmen gifts until I have everything else paid for. Thanks for your help guys.

I've gotten these items as gifts before:

A) small key-chain multi-tool. he did leatherman for best man, gerber for groomsmen, and swiss for ushers (ranked importance and price)
B) not shit
C) Flask with something the groom thought of when he thought of each of us, so they were all different.

The idea behind a groomsman/bridesmaid gift is that they are renting tuxes and spending a good portion of time on the wedding prep and possibly bachelor party. i was simply honored to be ask 3/4 times, the one was just a burden and he owed me way more than a flask or knife and i got nothing but debt....

Hey, you invited six people. Stop cheaping out on them - they're coming to a special event to help celebrate your life. You really want to convey the message that they're worth $15??? How much are you already spending on the wedding? what's a couple hundred more? You can't really pull the "poor college student" routine when a wedding is already costing how many thousands of dollars?

If you can't afford a decent gift, either A) work a few overtime shifts, B) invite less groomsmen (tell your fiance to start axing women), or C) be prepared tp be called a cheapskate.

Mixing drink set
Engraved pocket knife (actually, a cheap one!)

What I gave for my wedding:
Cufflinks to the dads
Ties for the ushers
my brother I got a swiss army knife with a USB thumb drive

 

I have been in 12 weddings. I was in 10 in one year. Yes PITA but they were all fun.
I have received a small knife with initials on them. Small and sharp works great.
Monogrammed silver cuzzie(?), Money Clips, Key Chain, Free Beer (only one drinks, seriously) Bottle Opener (Most of my friends drank) That is about it.
But a true friend shouldn't expect anything. It is a honor to be asked. I only asked my best friends and my family to be a part of the wedding.

 

Get them all watches so they'll be on time
