Why the same scared old guys that spend their days typing bullshit onto a forum reminds me of stories my dad told me from long ago, he’s about 95 now and I’m 63 but the point is human nature stays same. Always fear the new technology, resist and repeat the stories you hear. Dads story goes back to early 1930s, depression era. They are living in great grandparents house who predated electricity. The old man was very skeptical about that new thing called radio. They brought this radio into the house and a tube must have gone bad creating a little smoke and a spark. Immediately the guy born in the 1800s declared it unsatisfactory to ever be in the house again, he died in 1938 so the radio came back. This same guy had heard many bad stories about illnesses caused by indoor plumbing, to be exact they thought shitting inside the house was unhealthy. They came from a time when only outhouses were the norm, he lost that argument too as they got plumbing and electricity

Fast forward into the late 1940s and my dad is working as a bartender at the Elks club while working his way through college, he also took advantage of the GI Bill but he wouldn’t admit it. The older guys used to come in and complain about 1920 and giving the women the right to vote. So the takeaway here is times never change and we always have the people that spout their negative BS because they are scared of an idea or a process they don’t understand. Where would we be as a people if we didn’t keep moving forward looking for ways to solve problems rather than stay backwards and ignorant? Oh I saw another Rivian on the road so people are buying them despite what the nervous Nellies have to say

Sure that’s common in legacy generations but not so much anymore.

That being said there are very few technologies and inventions that really make our lives better. Arguments today is that technology is only over complicated our lives.

I understand all that you said. Very well put. It's amazing also because my dad is 83 and goes on the computer and orders stuff and researches things, loves his satellite radio, but refuses to get a smartphone. I drove him a lot when i had my Electric car and was like 'why haven't we been making these all along'? I said, that's a good question that has a multi layered answer.

Dunno, back in my day we had to hand write letters to pen pals, and if you wanted to argue about current events, had to read the papers then go down to the local watering hole to find people to argue with…

    Lol!

Used to hang out in our garages to bullshit about vehicles, now not so much. Though I do keep in contact with a few friends from the old days, somehow this is easier than picking up a phone, since majority have gotten married, have kids, work schedules, etc

Used to do the same. Just BS. When i got my Land Cruiser i joined the Mud forums and I probably wouldn't be as far along with it as I am now as I would be without a repository of info like the Mud forum.

The expansion of knowledge can be a wonder and horrible thing!

Dunno, my life is a hell of a lot easier now than it was 30+ years ago. Heck of a lot more free time, that is for sure…hell just look how much we post on here arguing over things that could make our lives even easier if we let it.

I just love I can pay bills online. I hated writing checks and mailing in bills.

Automatic bill pay, don’t even have to do anything after setup. For my work use Square for customer CCs, and can deposit checks via an app. Only time I need to go to bank is for cash deposits. Hated having to wait in line at the bank for deposits. Now I don’t have to.

I do autopay on some things but mortgage I add principle payments so I don't autopay that. But I just started using tap to pay from my phone and the visceral swiping of the credit or debit card is going away..lol.

Yeah digital wallets are getting more and more popular, still a lot of people afraid of it. I started using square when it first came out around 12 years ago, it would alert me when a client in the file was near. It had some growing pains, but all ironed out now. Just wish it was my idea. Guess I should of paid more attention in computer science class. Back when we thought these things aren’t going anywhere, just something to play Oregon Trail and Zork on…

I think it’s just that people today have more exposure to technology in every day lives. Even my 3 year old knows how to swipe the screen of an iphone.

The old codgers experienced more groundbreaking technologies than of today. The introduction of television back in the 30s and 40s is much different than the introduction of a 4K TV. Even the first flat screens. It’s still just a TV. Look at the microwave, pretty awesome tech.
