    Hello everyone,

Decided to jump-in and participate. Just traded in my 2nd Tundra (2015 White Tundra Crew Max) and 2013 SCION iQ which, believe it or not, I loved. The Tundra was a beautiful truck but it became impractical.

This is my 4th Tacoma. I was very very pleased with trade-in value for both vehicles. Strange buying a new (classified as used with just 17 miles) truck in this new/used car reality. Dealer inventory consisted of multiple low mileage “used” trucks (all less than 100 miles). They also had perhaps 5-10 new Tacoma trucks, but all were in a separate lot missing their catalytic converters. Stolen when trucks were staged at the port. Didn’t like any of the new models/color/options anyway. Strange world we live in…………….

I suppose I was lucky since the truck I purchased was very close to what I wanted with all model features and almost all upgrades included (no running boards). Not a fan of the Sport’s hood scoop and my 1st color choice was Cement but Lunar Rock kinda grew on me.

Buying experience – ok, overall sticker price didn’t appear excessive but really!!! I pressed hard on price, trade in value and redundant deliver/prep fees and document fees. Finance person was trying to press buying multiple pre purchase insurance plans. I refused and she kinda got a little pissy. Actually a lot pissy which kinda pissed me off!

I’m not an avad off roader but have enough outdoor activities, landscaping and hobbies requiring a truck. I’ve been an exclusive Toyota owner for 45 years. I’ve never not had a truck.

Things I have ordered/about to order:

    1. New black fender flares to replace stock color matched fender flares. I prefer the contrast

    2. Undercover SE tonneau cover – I prefer this model’s looks, durability and easy of detaching

    3. Running Boards – not ordered yet. Too many styles out there so choice paralysis has set in but the wife wants running board and it does provide a nice color balance to the overall vibe of the truck

    4. Misc convenience and performance upgrades….

Anyway, hope to sponge up some new gen 3 knowledge from everyone and share when I can. Once again, hi, and thanks for the many active forum participants.

Welcome! Heads up on the flares, and I'm not an expert on this at all so I may be flat out wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've read about problems with paint destruction underneath aftermarket flares on 3rd gens. Something about how they are mounted vs factory flares? I may be off on that but definitely recommend poking around the 3rd gen section https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/3rd-gen-tacomas-2016.186/ before installing. In any case welcome!

Thanks for the info. I spent time reviewing 3gen issues before purchasing and to be honest I was a little concerned. Steps can be taken to protect paint, but yes, I’ve have been hearing some thin paint grumblings....

Yeah mine is super white and it's particularly known for paint issues so crossing my fingers over here haha.

I really loved my iQ! Yeah i know, not the best driving car, not the quietest car, yeah a weak engine.........but it was a fun reliable car that never let me down and was still getting 40+ mpg. Oh, i purchased it used with 7,000 miles and the previous owner installed a $2,500 stereo /speaker/amp system.....with a custom installed Kevlar woofer..... no, I have no idea why someone would do that, but it sounded awesome…
