Is it possible to cut a straight line with just a circular saw? Working on this night stand.

 

Circular saw=best handheld saw for a straight line lol they only cut curves if you’re doing it wrong

watch out for kickback

Finesse trumps power when running a circular saw, you can literally feel/hear when it’s running true. A sharp blade helps
A straight edge (or track) clamped to your workpiece like wilcam mentioned is the only way you’re going to get a perfectly straight line short of using a table saw

 

Yeah I need to make the guide.

I was trying to get it straight free hand and its kinda close but hands are not perfectly steady. Sanding got it closer, but the pieces don't lay flat.

This is all part of the learning curve.

I saw somewhere else in the thread previously that making mistakes, and fixing those mistakes, or finding creative solutions to fix what you have, is what makes you a woodworker. I've only built 4 or 5 things, 1 being a computer desk/work table basically, and they all have some really major flaws. But taking the stupid amounts of time to "fix" or sand/cut/hand plane/make worse, and "fix again", is what makes you proud of your work. My computer desk was my largest (physical and time) project and even though I keep finding areas I should have done something differently, I still get the satisfaction of sitting down at something I built with my own two hands every time I go to power on the computer. Your projects so far are looking awesome, and working within the parameters of the tools you have takes way more skill and talent, and is a far better educator than just buying a bunch of new fancy tools and gear for every project you want to take on (even though we all get to a point that we justify buying new fancy tools). Keep it up!

I never knew how much I would enjoy working with my hands until I tried a job where I had to. I'm enjoying the journey, even if its hard. I expect to continue learning for the rest of my life.

Find yourself the straightest 1x you can find and use that with a couple clamps; it's what I do when I don't want to get out the table saw.

 

So simple and yet so effective. Thanks for the input all. This is exactly what I needed to know and my life has drastically improved today from this advice.
