Pretty good morning yesterday. Temps dropped to the low 50s. Saw 8 before 8:30. Had a doe in range and pulled the trigger. Clipped a small limb in front of her that I didn’t see.

a lot of bad ass stuff
Hi Guys. I've been following this thread since last year. Im fairly new to hunting as this is my second season, with a lot to learn. I was wondering if we could talk about broadheads? What are you guys using? Brand, mechanical, fixed, weight etc.... What are your experiences/ thoughts on mechanical over fixed?

ive used both. Also check state laws. Prob ok there but some states dont allow mechanicals. I used rage 2 blade. Muzzy is good fixed blade and G5 are good too. Watch out when going from target tip to broadhead as broadheads fly different than target points.

I don't think there's any denying that fixed (tuned properly) are superior to mechanicals; that being said, emphasis on TUNED PROPERLY - you've gotta put in the work and the know how to have those slight advantages pay off. Mechanicals have proven over and over to get the job done effectively and ethically; but shot placement is important for both. Think of fixed heads like 37's, and mechanicals like 33's. They'll both get the job done, one obviously a little better than the other, but only if you put in the supporting mods and know how to make the 37s work.

Other than what’s already been said, most guys including myself that live and hunt out west tend to use fix blades more. Especially on large game like elk.

The reason being, they’re less susceptible to failure and for penetration purposes. The penetration issue is simply for the fact that hunting wide open terrain, sometimes your shots end up a little further. I’d say, between 50-80y is pretty average shot distance for me. Closest being point blank (no rangefinder needed), and furthest being a borderline lucky shot at 117y. Stalking is a game of multiple skills, and luck that the wind holds.

Saw several young buck (spikes) and a few doe last Saturday. Doe were too far and the spikes just kept hanging out. It was get to get back in the stand and watching deer movement, even if they were small.F628422C-3413-4B42-B1BC-2D268D23B7E2.jpg
