For those that say there are less moving parts for disks, don’t forget there is typically an entire drum set up for a parking brake inside of it as well.

Yes but you never have to work on a parking brake if you use it regularly, or pretend it doesn't exist as most people do.

I dont know why its simpler...it just is. :duel:

As far as working on them, a few beers, a few screwdrivers, some busted knuckles, and a whole shit load of cursing actually makes it kind of fun. Makes a disk brake job seem like childs play.

In all seriousness though, I dont really see a need for a conversion on these trucks unless towing a heavy load very often as others have stated.

I had to laugh when the 3rd gen came out in '15 and Toyota claimed the "rear drums were better for offroading". So, using that logic, one should never take a 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser/LX 570, Land Cruiser Prado/GX460 or even RAV4s and Highlanders offroad? And what about other truck/SUV brands with rear discs?

Come on. 100% cost savings....period. And it's not even about the drums actually being cheaper than discs. It's about the unwillingness to put effort and cost into adapting it over to rear discs and retooling parts suppliers.

When it came to the chassis, suspension and rear brakes.....Toyota just phoned it in for the 3rd gen.

Rear disc brakes , I believe the 2024 Tacoma and all future Tacoma will have rear disc brakes. No drums.

I still having a slight problem of the rear drum brakes locking up after big rains. Some people just from washing there trucks. Rear disc brakes NEVER gets this problem.

The convert to rear disc (made for Tundra) very expensive. If you can afford this cost, “go for it”!

Expect to change out disc brake pads every 20-30,000 miles.

sure it depends on how and were you drive, but I can't imagine how aggressively you would need to brake in order to get 20-30k pad life. That or your trying to sell some brake pads to people.

This vehicle has seen an average mix of city and highway driving over the last 9 years.....though more city the last couple of years.

The fronts have been replaced twice.

My OEM pads are getting pretty thin and I have new rotors and pads ready to go, but at 71K miles with 35-40K of that towing, I can't complain.

On my vehicles with rear discs (just the wifes rav4 now) I'd change the rears every other time I do the fronts unless one fails an inspection at a tire rotation. They are usually pretty worn at that point and waiting would mean working on the car again in a month or 2 anyway.

I'll assume if you carried a lot of weight in the rear, then discs may be better, but I'm just assuming.....:turtleride:

My Nissan Frontier had rear discs, so of course I feel like my Tacoma should have them too. I would probably never convert though, not really worth the cost to me.
