Day 2 on the Dusy/Ershim Trail was a hoot.

Not often your group gets to patch up a rig for a "Missing Person."

So after all that he STILL didn't use your sat messenger? o_O It's for that reason I even have one at all. For all the times I go solo, it's good insurance.

He didn't want to use it. Not sure why. :notsure:

I brought it up with the rest of our group though. When he came in on Monday night, a couple of our guys tried to help him, but it was too dark. They told him he was welcome in our camp and that we would fix him up in the morning.

I knew something was going on out there. We were already in our tent though. I thought it was just another person that arrived late and was going to run the trail with us, so I didn't go out there.

The suggestion though was... As soon as he came in to camp, and they found out he was over due (2 days) like he was, someone should have rousted me out of bed to use the Zoleo. And we should have insisted at that point. In the future, that's the plan. A Sat Text could have avoided A LOT of wasted FS and SO resources.

There was no way for us to have known the gravity, but from now on, it will be assumed.

All I can say is it's best to learn something on EVERY trip. No matter what it is, or how small it is... this was one of the lessens learned on this trip

That's kinda where my head's at, that's a lot of resources being used to find one person who didn't even make an attempt to let someone know he is okay after having access to a communication device whether it happened that night or throughout the entire trail fix the next morning. I know you all were joking about the helicopter but did you not find out until you were off the trail that all of that WAS about him?

We found out when our guys escorted him out and got to the trail head, and the Sheriff was waiting there. Our guys radio'd back to us what was up.

We had absolutely ZERO idea that chopper was actually for Sam. We had a feeling it MIGHT be for him, or for a backpacker, or just training, we didn't know. (@Blue Canary also let us know a few hours later, that day, by texting me on the Zoleo, he's one of my Emergency contacts on it)

In the clip where the chopper was in frame, he was on the opposite side of the lake, from the trail, so we figured it might be looking for a missing backpacker, because it would be impossible for a Jeep to be over there.

I'm definitely the type of guy who would have refused your SAT, but if a group of experienced guys were helping me out of a tough situation and insisted that I call someone, I'd figure out someone to call.

Never mind. Just watched the beginning of the video. Seems he had a pretty good idea the choppers were for him.

    ABS sucks.
Today, I somehow managed to stuff a 1000 CCA marine starting battery under the hood. Just barely...

Wouldn't trust the sheet metal under the battery area to hold it up long term. Sounds like a heavy battery

Ditched the stock wimpy bumper and built this, in preparation for a winch and more. Took about a month of weekends, and about $300 in materials.20220913_162938.jpg

Pumped down my AC with some loaner tools from O'Reilly's.
    20220914_133650.jpg

It held vacuum until I pulled the hoses off the service ports and found a huge leak in the Low Side Schrader Valve.

Made a Schrader tool out of an old bolt and switched it out for a new one.
    20220915_082253.jpg

Now I'm pumping it down again.

3/4 impact didn't even flinch, pretty sure a Milwaukee midtorque would have taken car of it. I wouldn't call the Everlast a quality breaker bar.

Recently moved my 27f battery to the bed because it was destroying the fender. It'll probably be fine on the street but if you're on dirt much it's going to take its toll.

I have a new and correct MAF sensor now that @Torspd pointed out that I had one for an 05+ 4.0. They have very similar part number and the one I had was one digit/letter off. Pretty sure that was throwing the MAF/IAT codes. Going to try it tonight. I have another MAF adapter housing in route as well for backup.
