I'm deciding where to put this polywood swing at my RV site, it probably weighs 100lbs+, I know this orange is bit of an over kill to hold a swing, oh hell, it sure is functional though.

 

I've been on the hunt for a new riding lawnmower lately and I'm even on the local Cub Cadet dealer's list to call for when they get and XT2's back in stock but I came across this old Kubota B5100 with a mower deck and I couldn't resist.



It's a similar year to my Kubota L345DT (late 70's/early 80's) and it runs like a top. It has under 1000 hours on it and is in great shape. Most of the brackets and whatnot are with the mower deck to get it mounted but I'll still have to buy a few small pieces. Overall I'm thrilled. I'm really excited to start mowing on this old boy and see how it does.

 

My JD SST-18 saga continues. I started it up last night to spin around the yard and mow quick; and continued to notice one major downfall of this SST. The spin steer does not work if the engine is not giving full power. Additionally this engine is coughing and sputtering even though it seems to have everything within spec. Little puffs of black smoke about every 10 seconds. UGH... add it to the list of things I need to figure out.

 

Try the lazy approach: Dump some fuel injection cleaner (Techron) in the tank and mow with it -- a good dose but not a full bottle.
I have had some luck with cranky small engines doing it, might help, might not but not much effort to try.

 

I did add some sea-foam to the oil and mowed for an hour last week it worked just fine then. I did notice some weeping on the fuel lines so I should replace those at least. I have a feeling I have a stuck/ compressed oil ring on one of the pistons but I don't want to pull it all apart.

 

I personally never put any additives in engine oil.

Black smoke usually is excessive fuel, restricted air or poor ignition.

I have a small JD with a 13 hp Kohler Command, it would run like the choke was on or quit entirely.
Turned out the coil/magnetron had a crack in it.

 

Hi everyone. I told my newest twist to the White lawn tractor in the 50+ thread, so I thought that I'd share the same update. The quick and dirty version: it fixed itself.

I was walking past it with the intent of using the crapsman lt2000 to cut the jungle, but for some sadistic reason I put the key into the White, gave it a few cranks and it sputtered to life then evened out after 30 seconds and ran flawlessly throughout the cut, although I'm pretty sure that it smoked the drivebelt again. In the "top" gear the tractor would start slowing down then stall ( as in: not moving forward) when going up the hill, a quick shift down to 1st gear got it moving. If it's the belt, then I'm done with it.

 

The top gears are usually just for transport, depending on the hill you might need to shift down, you only have 13 hp to work with on a 450 pound rider + you.

 

Old Kubotas are the best Kubotas.

 

I usually use easternmarine for trailer parts, but what are some of your go to places? I'm shopping for axles and trailer stuff.

10 whopping hours in a year lol. I think I have put about 35 on it in 3 years or so...
I'll get the service done here as soon as I find a new resting spot for the stuff holding my tractor down...

How old? Are parts difficult to get?

 

87-96 is the years this model was produced.
Knock on wood, but really hasn't needed any...
That being said Messicks has most of what you need. Weirdly, tires were the hardest thing I have had to source due to the 4wd and needing to maintain the drive ratio.

 

Tractor 4x4 should have the front wheels spin faster than the rear. That is why you don’t use the 4x4 on pavement.

 

Problem is Kubota made these with hard to source sizes nowadays so when replacing my turf tires with AG tires, you have to measure and convert a bunch. My tractor has something like a ratio of 4.2 or something and Kubota gives you a small window to operate within before you risk breaking stuff.
I only use the 4wd when climbing or descending hills, or pulling implements at my cabin.

Or when I get stuck in a ditch...

 

Been there done that learned not to stick out my leg to try and keep the tractor upright.

You got me beat, I put about 25 hours a year on the Ford. That's the only one we have with a meter on it. The 3 others, nowhere near 25 hours......combined
