So my passenger side caliper decided it was going to blow up today. I am going to be replacing both front calipers while I’m at it, when i do that do i need to bleed the rear drums when i replace them? Thanks

You should not need to bleed the rear drums, but this would be a good opportunity to flush fresh brake fluid to all parts of the system, which will help prolong the life of all components.

Replaced both calipers and discovered that wasn’t the problem. It was the hard line that connects the rubber brake lines to the caliper. Does anyone know where I would be able to pick one up. Tried auto zone and advance auto they didn’t have anything.

Unfortunately I can’t wait as I work every day. What price would i be looking at if i went to a dealership?

If you’re lucky your local dealership is listed on parts.Toyota.com, where the dealership typically sells parts at a discount. Otherwise you’ll pay a minimum of list price at your local dealership.

My local dealer sells at 30-40% above list, then has the audacity to call the inflated price “list” on the receipt . . . hopefully your local dealership isn’t a stealership.

If you want it to perfectly fit, dealership.
This, and hope the guy has the skill to do it right.

If the reservoir drained, you're gonna have issues with air in the abs. You might be able to avoid a trip to a dealership. Slam the brakes hard on dirt or gravel to activate the abs, this might get the air out, then bleed again.

Another issue you might have, getting the male to seat into the female. When I had an issue, the male wouldn't come out of the female. After I got it out, it wouldn't even go in the new female. I very patiently took a jewelers file to it, very carefully filed it down until it fit and was perfectly round. I was able to do it and not have leaks but it took a really long time.

I'm pretty sure they have little sections of brake line with fittings at each end at o'reillys. 6 inch, 8 inch, 24 inch, etc. You could make it work if you carefully bent it around. Or better yet get a tubing bender

Make it yourself, don’t know where you are in jersey but I have a tubing flare and bender I would just need the ends off your stock lines and could make one up pretty quick.

As stated above, you can use short "replacement" brake line sections out of NiCopp (nickel-copper) - they're available at most name auto parts stores. For example, a 20 inch section is about $12 or so. NiCopp is easily bendable by hand if you do not have a proper tubing bender - i would still use "bending springs" though to make sure you don't collapse/kink it while bending. Best of all, they come pre-flared with fittings, you just have to make sure you get it with the right thread. Even if you want to replace it with OEM fabbed hard lines, it will get you on the road quick with minimal need for tooling.

How did you know it was this line causing the problem?

a great way to bleed is Motive pressure bleeder kit and DOT4. I don’t know what PSI is best I’ve always done 15-20, sometimes up to 30

    it’s like $50-100
