I've had the linear spring in for about 5 years now. Still feels good, still silent. I ended up taking out the whole pedal assembly to get the darn torsional spring out. If you go this route make sure you really tighten the fixture back into place as it can cause poor engagement of the clutch and premature wear on the clutch.

I have had that assembly out many times replacing the bushings, torsion spring and pedal trying to get rid of the squeak. At one point I have see someone braze the u grove so the bronze would act like a bushing on the torsion spring and I was going to do that but the linear spring was easier to do and is now quiet.

Good to hear it worked out for you, but getting the torsional spring out is super easy. I don't know why you would need to remove the whole assembly. Just put a screwdriver between one end of the spring, and the bracket. Pry a little, and it will pop out, easy. Takes like five seconds.

I've had this thread saved for the day when my clutch started squeaking, wasn't going to replace those bushings again on the torsion spring. well the day came sooner than expected when my cruise control wouldn't work due to pedal not fully retracting. Got the Toyota clutch spring and was a simple task getting that spring installed, spring does make contact with that metal tab. I would think any of the springs mentioned here would as well. Going to give it a few days and if it passes muster I will cut off that tab.

Really the only thing I could add would be regarding the awkward position you have to get in to do this. I took one of my big coolers and some blocks and made a platform that came up to height of door sill, made it so much nicer to lay down and slide in to do the work. Almost like being in bed.

Sub, bought a new spring and bushings, and have that linear spring floating around somewhere too. I'll replace the stock shit with other stock shit and if it comes back the linear is going in.

I just replaced the OEM torsional spring with an OEM brake pedal spring (Toyota part #90905-07020). All I have to say is WHAT THE HELL TOOK ME SO LONG?!? (Insert the quiet nodding of everyone on this thread who already did the mod.)

Couple notes (that may have been covered by others in previous posts):
    • I did not need to remove the clutch pedal assembly to remove the torsion spring. I just used a flat screwdriver on the end closest to the brake pedal to push/pry it out of the mounting hole. Easy to remove after that.
    • I didn't bother with the OP's hardware store spring approach. The OEM brake pedal spring is cheap and I knew it would fit the first time. Just go with that and save yourself some time.
    • The pedal is a little stronger compared to the torsional spring, but the travel feels much smoother.
    • No squeaks and no noise so far.

    Seriously dude...just DO IT already!

    Bump.

    My clutch pedal wouldn't return.

I ended up doing this mod, but only half of it.

I removed the spring. But, didn't install another one. Right now, there are no springs.

Clutch pedal returns okay. There is slack at the top but I think there is a screw to adjust that.

Right now, it's only the hydraulic pressure returning the clutch pedal

I'll run it like this for a few weeks and see how it goes.

If you have cruise control it likely won’t work because the clutch pedal won’t come up high enough to engage the cutoff switch.

    No CC.

But, after driving a while, the pedal still sticks to the floor. I'm guessing rebuilding the clutch cylinders is next step?
