TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

We have a new supercharged member asking about a stronger transmission… anyone want to chime in on their thread?

Yeah, I think my hope was that someone would either say that the IPT will do fine or there is a stronger swap option that costs $$$$. I have the stock trans and no issues, so leaving alone for now.

 

Doss the URD Mk3 put out much more hp than our setups that the trans will burn up?

 

I also run the URD long tube headers.... Never had heat issues. But then again, I'm not slow wheeling or idling for long periods.

Different ways to more power… we can try all we want to convince people to change to the muggy and no bully dog, but it’s hard when they are deeply invested.
It’s also nice to have multiple options for our engines without doing the JZ/LS swap.

 

It is nice to have options and it is difficult to make the switch when you are deeply invested. I agree across all fronts.

That still doesn't change my previous sentiment. HPTuners all the way.

 

What is more strongly disapproved - Bully Dog or UCON?

 

I think I would put bullydog being strongly disapproved over ucon. I know people have had issues with the ucon but as far as I know it wasn't the cause for anyones motor running extremely lean.

 

Good reminder that I need to get my friend with an FJ and bully dog to GTFO and HP Tune already.

 

Anyone used spike performance Louvres or another brand? I know we were all about that discussion shown back but was randomly thinking of adding some.

the new trans cooler made the trans happy and the engine to some to some degree. But the engine still gets a bit hot especially on warm days. Once I got 210 on oil temp say good bye to A/C.
I still have my e fan setup to get around to as well.

 

Raptor louvers? That is from the CSF radiator thread. @mightytacoman

 

Nice I think that’s what I was thinking. Is the top the best spot? Seems situational depending on the vehicle.

has anyone with a urd throttle body adapter had the bolts vibrate their way loose/out?
thought i forgot to tighten them the first time but yesterday went to show off underhood and gasp....
they ALL were lose, like nearly ready to fall out. using a dab of rtv on the collar of the bolt to hold it.

 

Bolts that hold the TB or the adapter?

I think I went to slightly longer bolts or at least easier to access. M6x 50mm

im using the stock bolts. never recall anyone changing them when installing larger tb's.

 

It's because you re- used the bolts and they are TTY so you actually should have replaced them.

 

I don’t think it was required but I find these much easier to access
