    Good Friday morning crew.
I should have taken pictures but back 18 years ago I didn't carry a phone but for emergency calls. Anyway my mentor gave me these couple of odd pieces, show me where it broke ( cast aluminum). This was hinge for a guys prosthetic leg (knee joint), the SS part I made will undoubtedly last a lifetime.

    ‘Morning all :hattip:

Another chilly morning Above the Notches here in NH but not cold enough to pop the hoses or kill the hanging plants.

Frost warning tonight so I’m spousily obligated to enact “Operation Save the Annuals” (all hanging plant either get moved to the carraige house or draped in sheets).

Unrelated, a huge thanks to any union rail workers who accepted the compromise. There’s just so much shit out there nowadays, a strike would have been a real bummer.

    Happy Friday :bananadance:

    I'm glad it's Friday.
I knew this job today was not going to be without possible challenges. The wall thickness of this piece when all said and done is going to be around .070"
Or two sheets of paper over a 1/16" if anyone decimal challenged.
Soooo, I'm tooling right along...not being hasty with speed/feed/depth of cut...I got all day. I don't have a gorilla grip on the chuck because I want it to remain round throughout the process...
I suspect a little heat was all that was needed to grow it enough to move on me was on 4th pass at .020" :bananadead:
Before we even began this job I was concerned and requested a different schedule pipe we showing stock out West....outside storage...outside the protected are (read similar to a prison)...anyways they couldn't find it..must have gotten chucked
Now I'm wishing I would have cut the piece a couple few inches longer and then parted off:facepalm:
    :frusty:
I may just regroup here and do just that. With a few extra inches that won't get machined I can put the whammy on it in the chuck.20220916_071228.jpg 20220916_072245.jpg 20220916_071228.jpg 20220916_072245.jpg

I wanted to go, but they sent a bunch of supervisors and engineers instead of machinists....

    Everything
That’s lame. One big issue I’ve seen throughout my career is lack of input from the end user. I’m always bitching to upper management telling them we need to get operators, mechanics, and techs involved at the early stages of projects. Instead they have a corporate engineering staff design and spec the equipment, then plant engineering team(me) does the commissioning and startup, then we hand it off to operations. Completely ass backwards.

I actually took two vacation days and paid for this trip myself. I’m tired of dealing with crap from all ends working for corporate America. I told my boss I’m out in 1-2 years.

@cory02taco I’ll send them to you next week. I know you said you needed two but you can’t have two new ones mixed with two old ones :D

We used to go to shows like that when I started working here, been a long time since we’ve been to one though.
