For those on the fence - 4600s on TRD Sport Springs are terrific!

Good plan, but a bit surprised you only get 25k on a set of tires. You must drive them hard

Don't mind me, I'm a moron. I totally misread what you wrote. Second set of tires would mean replacing the OEM tires, so it's your first set of replacements. I need the weekend!

 

I have a question for those experiencing excessive “nose dive” with the Bilstein shock absorbers that come on the off-road. How hard are you braking? Are you getting close to locking up the brakes? I’ve personally never noticed anything that was slightly annoying. The hood barely dips at all under normal braking.

 

I've never noticed it, but I'm sure I will now. Just like I notice all the quibbles with the MT gearing after reading a thread of people's complaints about it.

I bought my 4600's from ebay. Fronts were $93 a piece and the rears are slipping my mind. I want to say in the $70 range or so.

As for nose dive on braking, moderate to severe I'd say. I'm not hard on my brakes either, 71k with 35k or more of towing. Normal braking not so much. The stock OR has a ton of bump steer as well. My second gen 6112's completely eliminated that. Hope the 4600's do ok there.

 

Wit? Maybe we have different definitions of bump steer. Bump steer means to me a behavior of the axle to steer the vehicle when one side goes over a bump. AFAIK, shock absorbers have no effect on this. I think people attributed too many behaviors to their shock absorbers while ignoring other things like solid axle vs independent, IFS alignment, anti-roll bars, anti-dive/anti-squat geometry, etc.

Hit a pothole with the stock OR suspension, then hit that same pothole with say 6112's. Shocks may have no effect on it, but the springs certainly do. Somewhere the message has gotten cloudy.

One has significantly less bump steer than the other.

Neither has shit to do with sport springs on 4600's though.

Read the Wikipedia article on bump steer. I don’t see anything about springs directly affecting bump steer. It does talk about ride height having an effect, but also only indirectly due to changes in alignment. Did your alignment change after you installed the Bilstein 6112 coil overs?

 

Yes. Was also aligned 8k miles after purchase when I picked up a nail with my stock tires.

 

I had zero issues with the stock OR shocks, but felt an immediate improvement and less nosedive with the Bilstein 5100s set @ 2". Love 'em

If I was gonna pay to buy Bilstein 4600s, I would just skip that step and get the 5100s.
