Made a little progress on this wall and it's time for some more acrylic cases. Which leads me to a question for you all...

    20220912_192814.jpg

I can continue to buy cases in low quantity at Hobby Lobby which are $9.99 per a box of six.

Or I can order them in bulk online but the online store has a UV option that I'm not sure is worth the extra cost.

    https://www.pioneerplastics.com/sho...cars/164-scale-diecast-display-case-164c-6pk/

The ones I buy at Hobby Lobby don't mention UV on the box anywhere and I can't find anything online about this brand regarding UV or not.

The room they're in does have a window, but the blinds are always closed and the shelves aren't ever in direct sunlight.

    Thoughts on all this?

From what I noticed with mine. The plastic case turns more yellow than the card inside. Are you putting loose cars in these? If so I wouldn’t worry about the uv. Mine don’t see a lot of sun at all either but I have some that are yellow now but I’ve had them over 20 years too.

Don’t know if it will show in this pic but this one use to be clear. Plastic is now yellow but the card that is not in plastic is fine. This car is from 1998

Here’s a better comparison purple one is probably 10 years older than the pink one. If I take it out of the plastic it’s just as white as the other. I know these are different than the plastic cases your looking at but should give you an idea.

I don't know how well these pictures will show up if you're looking on a phone but there's a couple of fire trucks that I seem to have in a lot of colors and I guess I'm now motivated to find other colors.

The first one is called 5 Alarm and according to Google there's at least a white one, a lime green one and possibly a green one that I don't currently have.

    20220913_121059.jpg

    20220913_121000.jpg

The second one is called Rapid Responder.

According to Google there's an Orange, Black and Lime Green version that I do not have yet.

    20220913_121752.jpg

    20220913_121733.jpg

If anyone has any of these or any other colors I am not aware of and wants to trade please let me know!

    Thanks!

Acrylic in itself is highly UV resistant already. So if they are adding some sort of additional UV protection its going to be a blocker, absorber, or stabilizer. My guess is its most likely an absorber. Like an additive in the acrylic.

You're hot wheels cases yellow because they do not have these additives. They are made as cheap and as thin as possible. What I could find online was that in general, acrylic has a degradation of 3% over a 10 year period. These additives reduce that to 2%. If the cost is not a big deal for you, go for it. Any extra protection is great. But I would contact them to find out how exactly the two differ. The "UV Protected" option, may be jsut a high quality acrylic. Who knows.

Also thanks for posting that link. I think Ill order these for my own small collection.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.

I was supposed to meet a guy on Saturday to buy 3 trucks for $3 each per his Marketplace add. We messaged back and forth and we agreed to meet this Saturday at 8AM. Later in the day he messaged me and said he got a better offer and sold the green and checkered truck. I messaged back questioning why he did that after agreeing to meet with me. He had only a few sales in his Marketplace account and I wanted to leave a 1 star for what he did but I decided to just let it go and delete the thread.

Well, that evening I visited my daughter who lives in a town or two over and looked in the Dollar Store to see if they had anything...and there was nothing. I then went to the H.E.B (Grocery store) to get a few items and look what I found. The exact same three trucks he was selling. I then went to Walmart across the street and snagged 12 random cars as the aisles were freshly stocked and nothing was on the floor LoL. Still, kind of cool to get the same trucks he sold to another. I already have those trucks, but they were to cool to pass up. Happy Friday.

    More wheel swaps.
I actually saw the real Rat Trap at the Holley Reunion in Bowling Green Kentucky 6 years ago.Amazing show. While there i had drawn Ohio George Montgomery's 33 Willy's Gasser and had him yelling at me because a little boy talked my wife into letting him have one of the seconds I had of those prints before I had his approval. The kid ran straight to George with it and he tore into me. Not everyone can say they pissed off Ohio George. I did. After he calmed down he came back and ordered several hundred from me of 3 of his cars that I had drawn.
The old Chevy pickup was barely a fit. I'm not ready to try cutting metal to get the back to sit lower.
The Hot Wheels Silverado I ran into a problem with. What do you do when your down to your last 2 chrome wheels and last 2 gold wheels?Tacomaworld 2022 083.jpg

I think I have that Ohio George hot wheels gasser. I’m going to a hot wheels show early tomorrow. Looking for a few things. If anybody is looking for anything particular let me know. Or check this thread early tomorrow, I usually post some pics. Between 8 and 10am EST.

I don't think I would enjoy a Hot Wheels show as I would be too annoyed at the prices!

That being said.. I did pay the Walmart price for a Premium this morning ...
