Ive been doing super redundant revisions to drawings for an engineering firm. Dude wants me to label stuff six ways from Sunday. Apparently a relay needs 4 different identifiers. Its on revision C now, gonna see how far down the alphabet I get before I get an approval.

4 identifiers?! Lemme guess... 1 is the brand, 1 is the part number, one is the device label (CR1) and 1 is ... the terminal numbers for where each wire lands on the relay?

No brand, but it does have some random identifier that means nothing to me and was assigned by the civil engineer overseeing everything. Along with everything else you mentioned.

Its gonna confuse the hell out of the panel shop guys.

Those weird outliers always make my gears turn. Maybe it's because I've always been a "parts guy" at heart, but it really bothers me when I can't figure em out on my own lol

When I worked at the panel shop and came across those notes, if I couldn't come up with the answer.. or if our in house engineer/panelshop manager didn't have an answer, I'd always have to make up a reason before making space to include it on the label

Oh FFS. Drive shaft arrives Sunday and was going to get started now that I finally have everything. Noticed this today when giving the transmission a look over. According to the service info, have to pull the valve body to replace the throttle cable. Really don't want to do that. FML.

Only benefit to our 03-04 transmissions… no cable like that to get damaged in handling.

edit: It’s always something too. Always. Something.

Just got done with first long-ish night drive....LED projectors with hard cutoffs can gtfoh. It's awesome how everything below the level of about halfway up a street sign is bright as hell but you can't see anything above it lol. And can't see but like 50ft in front.
I don't think I'm built for modern vehicles.

On a brighter note, new GT episode is out and they're driving rally cars...

    Always making excuses :burp:

Kidding. That fucking sucks :( here's a funny, kinda similar, story to help take your mind off it.

When I was 19 and just getting into fixing up cars I had a 86 VW cabriolet with a 3 speed auto. Had a hard time shifting and learned from a mechanic at work who helped me look at it, that my throttle cable had a similar failure. Figured "I'm just learning how to work on stuff, I'll do a trans fluid/filter change since I have to change the cable as well"

Bought the Hayes manual. Bought gasket, filter, and 5qrts of royal purple ATF, LOL. Real proud of myself for spraying the valve body down with brake clean and pulling material off the magnet in the pan. Didn't see a fill plug on the trans like the oil cap on an engine valve cover, so my dumbass, instead of reading the manual close enough, filled the pan to the brim with fluid and reinstalled it that way.:bananadead::bananadead:

The amount of fluid that rained down on me while I tried to lift it level and start all the bolts one handed. Oh lawd, I just unlocked repressed memories :annoyed:

Any whoseit, I drove it for a week with it shifting like shit before I asked the mechanics at work what I might have done wrong, and they explained I fill to capacity through the dipstick tube. Added the remaining quart and 1/2 that didnt fit in the pan and it shifted just fine. But i did enough damage that from that point on, whenever it started to shift like a drag car, I knew it burned through another quart of fluid.

And that's the one and only time I ever bought royal purple products. When you're a broke teenager, store brand ATF works juuuusssstt fine when you have to buy 1 a week.

    Yesssss

How was that very first cut? I remember it took me a bit, like, “Am I really going to take a cutoff wheel to a perfectly good truck?!”…

Looks like you didn’t have to get into your cab mount, tho. Nice!
