What would cause the cruise control to kick off while on highway while just hitiing small rough patches? Im not talking major potholes or running over cones just minor transitions.

Guessing here. Maybe the switch on the brake pedal is barely engaged causing the truck to think you tapped the brakes when the pedal jiggles when you go over a bump?

Loose or bad connection on a ground that gets moved with the bumps. Just my best guess.

does your horn work? Does it work with the steering wheel in any position?

Failing spiral cable comes to mind.

Hmmmmmm yeah horn works good in all positions cruise control works fine on smooth highway but on transitions like bridges if there is any noticeable bumps etc it will just kill the cruise then I hit resume and its right back on an ran the last 45 min to an hour home just now. Then I pull in the driveway (gravel) and park and my dang A/C button just fell out lol. One of those days, maybe I should leave ole betsy alone the rest of the day she can be ornery!

Had this problem and it was like the first guy said, but mine was the clutch switch barely making contact.

It’s been a while since I had the issue, but I probably just adjusted the switch in to make more contact. One way you can test to see if the brake or clutch switch is the issue is go find a bump that you know will kick the cruise off when you hit it and set the cruise as you normally would but hold the pedal up with your foot as you go across the bump. If the cruise don’t kick off while holding up the pedal then that is most likely your issue.

Good call on the clutch pedal being loose that is exactly what the problem is. Now I jut have to start the process of repairing it. Some stuff I have seen looks like a total pain in the ass. Thankfully my clutch is good as far as pressure etc so its probably just replacing some bushings an it will be good. I really dont wanna have to get into having to tinker with the master or slave cylinders

If your talking replacing the bushings in the clutch pedal itself, it’s not a bad job I did that a month or two ago. My pedal squeaked something fierce and got to where I couldn’t ignore it anymore. Getting the pedal out was a lot easier than I expected.

Im hoping mine is just gonna be a little adjustment above the pedal. I am trying to find how much play its supposed to have in the Factory Service Manual but have no idea what page section its on. I just have the free pdf with no way to search

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Some place in any of the safety switches or in any of the cruise harness you have a poor connection that vibrates open.

Going to be a slow process working through the whole system.

My cure was removed it and be done!

The cruise clutch switch needs adjusted that the slightest touch to the pedal opens the circuit.

Yeah I have been looking at my pedal an the FSM diagram: if you take your hand and hold my clutch pedal you can make a small circle or box (however you wanna picture it) with the play. Its totally loose for just maaaybe under 1/4 of an inch. I actually took some of the stretchable black tape that adheres only to itself and made a figure 8 at the top of the pedal and it so far has held up to keeping rougher bumps from disengaging my cruise. By no means do I see this as permanent but just seeing for now

I am sure there is some bushing in there tht has worn down but I am not gonna rip it apart looking because my foot is cruise control enough. If the tape doesnt hold or as I am testing it doesnt allow the safety part of it to kick cruise off then so be it.
