The TRD OR is the only vehicle that anyone should ever need and if you do not get one you will be SORRY. As a matter of fact, the SR5 and Sport are so useless offroad that Toyota will be phasing out both option packages by 2013. Good luck with your decision.

It does not matter what purpose you have for your Tacoma, some members of this forum will always recommend the OR no matter what, so WTF.

No mods....yet. Just came off lease a couple months ago.
I like the chrome grille trim and bumper on the OR to start off with, that's what drew me to the truck in the first place...not a HUGE off-roader but I have dabbled, plus I've done some camping etc. and it's nice to be able to go just about anywhere I want. The skid plate saved my ass a couple times LOL, and the locking diff helped me get out of a pretty huge mudhole once. That blizzard we had day after Xmas? Piece of cake! I was the only one who made it to work that morning. Gimme the Off-Road...wish my 06 had the options in that package posted above though, some real nice stuff there...Rick

You fail at teh sarcasm :D

OP save money and buy sr5, then mod any way you want for whatever you want, unless you want better seats then go with Sport.

Do you want to do a little more offroading? Like mentioned the newer OR pkg is great with the ATRAC, HAC, DAC, oh and the locker, 4x4-nice. If not, get the Sport!

I would say Sport if your worried about resale. Its really hard to find a nice used 4x4 sport for a decent price.

Tell me, what is it that makes you think you can not do any off roading in an SR5 or Sport?

One wheel off the ground, is that correct? You say the TRAC H4 with one wheel off the ground is done? What other factory 4x4 has ATRAC or a Locker?

Oh jesustittyfuckingchrist, not this shit again.

Look, Lrgrnr and I have wheeled together quite a bit over the past few months. I have a 09 TRD OR with all the shit. He has a 06 sport open front/LSD rear. I was on MTs. He was on bald ass (and I mean BALD ASS) ATs.

On everything that's mattered, we've BOTH gotten up there, often with him doing it first.

This armchair wheeling shit gets old. It's the driver, not the truck. End of debate.

The Sport would have probably worked for me, but I went with the TRD OR. The deciding factor to me was the hood scoop. The fact that it was non-functioning didn't bother me, but I didn't like the sight line across the hood when sitting in the cab. It seemed to interfere.

I had a 2WD PreRunner for 10 years (2001 - 2010). Nice truck, but I had to leave it parked when we had deep snow or when camping in wet weather (muddy trails). When I bought this time--my motto was get another 10 years and have no regrets.

Best of luck--all three choices are good trucks.

i like the sport 4x4. plus i think it looks better. not really into the black handles and chrome. and ill be driving it mostly on the street with the occasional weekend rock pounding. but if anything looks to scary then i just wont go. i still like my clearcoat and dont wanna break or dent anything. IMO
