It was time for stir fry again! Look at my sad, tiny little Thai hot peppers. When I bought the plant, I didn't realize it was ornamental, so I get these mini peppers. Stil hot, just need more of them. And, of course, cilantro!

My dad had one of those "ornamental" pepper plants that we'd gotten him for his 40th B-day, and he dragged that thing around the country with him. Ended up in a half-barrel pot, grew to about a 3' bush, and he'd sit on the patio in the summer plucking them off and popping them like Skittles.

Every fall he'd take an old glass olive oil bottle and fill it with the remainders of dried-out mini-peppers and top it off with EVOO. He always used it for his fried eggs, and the smell in the kitchen was glorious.

That does sound very good. I'm building a greenhouse and may re-pot it into a larger pot so it can get bigger, and keep it in the GH.

IIRC it was a thick, black soil, and he would add compost to it every month or so. Later on he added marigolds to the pot but I don't remember why - I think it was for bugs or to keep it from getting to waterlogged from a good watering.

I think it lasted about 15 years, but couldn't take the shock of moving from Ohio to Nevada.

My other half, the real gardener, uses marigolds for bugs. She doesn't want to use any pesticides so tries various natural methods. I'm not sure it does anything beneficial, but it doesn't hurt either. I had a regular Thai hot pepper plant a few years ago in a raised bed and it was prolific in producing peppers. So much so we were giving them away to anyone who would take them. "Hi, I'm your neighbor 10 houses down, good to meet you. Would you like some peppers"? It was like that when we were in Hawaii, but it was avocados. Just a mere mention of the word avocado and, if by magic, a bag of avos appeared as if from nowhere. We did not mind that at all.

I thought this was a new paint color thread. Leaving a little disappointed.
