Got the new split system put in today. Only part of renovating this house I didn’t do myself. But it was dying (22 years old, which is amazing considering I’m 100 yards from the salt water) and I’ll be down and out from an Achilles surgery for a while so just swallowed my pride to get it done. The last thing I needed to be doing when recovering from a surgery is scrubbing the weekly mold growth out of the closet where the supply plenum isn’t sealed anymore.

Have you looked into the family history of that house? Might be neat to learn the history.

Maybe some old coins , money, or family heirlooms. When I replaced my hot water heater for the tankless one I demo'd the drywall pedestal. The "builders" were nice enough to leave an empty beer can and potato chip bag inside.

 

Some old houses used to use the voids in the walls as "blade banks" for double edge shaving razors, careful breaking into walls in old bathrooms or adjoining bathroom walls as there's always an exciting potential for it to be half full of rusty razor blades which are often still sharp enough to fuck you up.

 

Oh wow! Mine was built in 1996, so probably not applicable to me.

 

Usually the old medicine cabinets in bathrooms had a slot in the back you put the old razor blade.
