Companies are pretty good at prep and paint of coils whether aftermarket or factory.

If they're really bad, maybe it's time to replace them.

If they're stock coils, they're overdue anyway based on how old these trucks are.

    Kwikvett,

I was afraid someone would suggest replacing them. I have been pricing them and they aren't cheap.

I am thinking about cleaning a portion of one of them, taking a wire brush with some soapy water to the area to assess the damage. I just may have to fork over the $360-400 on new ones. Was afraid of that

Well the thing is, you wouldn't be replacing simply due to the rust but because of their end of life.

If you sat your truck next to one with factory-height (but new) coils, your truck would sit significantly lower.

Moog offers factory height coils, not to mention you can still get new Toyota coils as well. Think the Moogs run $200 for the pair versus $360 for Toyota pairs?

Might I suggest Bilstein 4600 shocks as well to do a refresh on both shocks and coils. Those average $40-50 per shock.

Everything else is good. I am still in the process of finishing my frame coat with POR15. I have been sick and haven't had a chance.

    Kwikvette,

You read my mind. I can get factory coils from my dealer friend at a decent price and was planning on getting either 4600 or 5100s. Probably go with the 5100s should I decide to lift the front in the future
