I assume you've signed an intent to purchase when you made that deposit? If so good luck negotiating now.

drive cross country on vacation , everyone needs to experience that at least once.
If your not trading a car/truck , buy one to drive across country until you find a dealer with what you need "without the BS mark-up".

Did you look into what Carvana, Vroom, Carmax, etc will offer you for your 22?
A dealer is always adjusting his formula to make the most money off you as possible. Vehicle price, Financing, trade it, if he gives on one, he will take on another to make up for it.

You need to get their best sale price in writing up from and when they ask if you are trading in or financing, you say maybe...Tell them you need them to sharpen their pencil and give their best price before you discuss anything else because there are other dealers you are talking with and whoever gives me the best deal possible gets my money.

And with all due respect. They already know you are impatient (and gotta have it now, no matter the cost) if you want a 23 pro, if you are trading in a 22.

    Good Luck

This is actually a really good point, going out of state to purchase can help avoid mark ups, also theoretically when you go back and register at your local dmv you can give them a sales form with a lesser purchase price…

As others have said, the only thing you can do it offer numbers that work for you and stand your ground.

Earlier this year we bought a new car for my wife.. it's a long story but the original build got canceled due to lack of parts, so I looked all over the North East for something similar and found maybe a dozen or so. I emailed all those dealers, and for the ones that weren't sold, everyone wanted at least a $10,000 mark up. Instead of getting emotional about it, I just replied, "I will pay MSRP out the door. If you are willing to do this, I will finance through you." Most held firm at $10k over, a few dropped to $5k over, and one dealer kept fiddling with me for a week trying to get me to pay a markup. I'd just keep sending the same response, "I'm still at MSRP out the door, and I'll finance through you." In the midst of this, the dealer we originally ordered from magically got something close enough and sold it for $500 under because we are repeat customers. The same day we picked up our car the other dealer emailed, "fine, we'll do MSRP out the door." I imagine they would have jerked me around with other bullshit after I got there, but the moral of the story is that persistence and patience can pay off, and you don't need that car today. If that truck stays on the lot for more than week or two and they keep getting offers from you for MSRP, they'll eventually sell it to you.

Edit to add- I have doubts that you'll get them off their markup the first day it hits the lot. They'll be expecting dozens of calls from people who see it on the Internet. I wouldn't call it a "trick" but I've seen people write a check for the amount they're willing to pay, slide it across the desk and say, "this is the only check I'm willing to write today." If you're financing and/or trading you could always just write on a piece of paper, "I am willing to trade my '22 for the '23 and finance $x right now." If you catch them in the right mood...

Doesn't work this way. The DMV will want to see the MSO as well as sales contract with the purchase price. How do I know this? I've bought new vehicles out of state and brought them back to CA.

The whole over MSRP thing really depends on the vehicle.

I briefly looked into a new 2023 WRX as a daily, and a local dealer here in CA was willing to do $5K under MSRP, because the cars aren't moving.

For my 2022 Tacoma, best I could find was MSRP with no added accessories. However this dealer rarely got DCSB trucks in - most are AC SRs.

Everytime you pay dealer markup, you help that dealership owner buy a new Audi R8.

There have been many, many reported instances where a dealership would not sell to an out of state buyer. Better check before you travel.

You really don’t have leverage with a highly desired model like the Pro. Have to think why would the dealer discount their asking price when there is probably a list a mile long of people who will pay the asking price? That truck will be gone tomorrow to someone else. They have zero incentive to lower their price. Maybe , just maybe they will throw in a TRD hat…:)

You could also wait until the end of the month when they need to hit sales numbers and go in with proof that they other dealers are giving you more and see if they are at least willing to negotiate

Lots of Pro hate as usual. I got one at MSRP as mark-ups aren't a thing really in Canada. Came from a 2017 OR and to me it made no sense to go for OR as total cost of ownership when I get rid of this thing in a few years will actually be lower (my prediction, could be wrong if Pro resale tanks much more than OR in the near future)

This is a joke right? Trade a 22 OR for a 22 Pro?
If you are not happy with your 22 OR you probably won't be happy with a 22 Pro.
Just wait for the 2024 model.

My local dealer where I got my 21 LunaRock tundra Pro the salesman I dealt with said they have when last talked 8 customers on a Tacoma Pro list. And said some don’t have no preference for what color. They just want a Pro. That’s crazy.

What made you want to trade up only 2 years and no real updates? Just for a new truck a couple thousand more or color/transmission?
