    As of right now, my truck is at the mechanic and will be getting both a leak-down test and a pressure test...

    I drove 500km never touching the brake or gas with my adaptive cruise on. Was lovely. Got 27mpg on that trip too. Stick to the speed limit or 5 under the whole way.

    I'm probably gonna have to replace the stereo though; I tend to not like factory stereo systems. Would putting in new speakers and possibly a new head unit void the warranty? Also, does your truck have that stupid feature that won't let you change songs on your iPod while going above 5 MPH? I got a Camry as a loaner when my frame was getting replaced and it had that stupid feature...

    The truck is at Pete's now and we're all in agreement that the head gasket is likely shot; $3,100 for the whole job, which is still better than paying dealer markup for new truck. I am strongly considering a new Tacoma at this point; I'd sell this one for top dollar and use that money as a down payment on the new truck. Even the base model has all of the safety features my parents and I want, so if one more thing happens that costs a shit-ton of money, a new Tacoma could be in my future.

    No it doesn’t. It doesn’t limit the phone/device at all actually which I love for off-road when you’re crawling and want to check something. And no a new head unit won’t void the warranty, although obviously the warranty won’t cover the aftermarket head unit lol. Factory sound systems on the ACLB aren’t bad actually. Nothing spectacular, but good enough that I haven’t felt the need to touch it. It has speakers in the half doors as well so it doesn’t lack the bass like the single cabs do. Also there’s boxes for sale for subs to take the place of the rear “seats” (which don’t really hold humans anyways). I personally put in a homemade cargo shelf in the back seat for hauling camping gear. It really doesn’t drive all that different than a 2nd gen, just slightly more refined, way less vibration and a ton more tech. Rides a little softer too. The 6th gear is a god send on the highway, keeps rpm’s under 2 grand at 65. Id stay away from the 2.7 auto third gens, not that there’s anything wrong with them per say, but they have the same power output as your truck, with 1k more lbs, and that’s not an exaggeration. They feel ungodly slow on the highway. If you find a 2017 2.7 with the 5MT, they’re good. The manual wakes that little motor up. But personally, I’ll always stick with the V6. It just adds that flexibility and comfort on highway trips. Can also tow up to 6700, which is nice. I haul cars with mine and it does great. The 3rd gens have been really popular up here in the off-road community. @Norilsk has pushed the boundaries of what they’re capable of and it’s been… reliable for what he puts it thru :rofl:. This has turned into quite a bit of a ramble but I really cannot recommend this thing enough.

    I can't afford an OR, but the SR has all of the features I want except foglights. If prices come down, I'll probably get a new SR and sell my current truck; I would by a 2.7L/5-speed if they still made them...

    It overheated in the parking lot of a Wawa in Quakertown on Saturday evening, and all clues are pointing towards a failing head gasket. I am driving my mom's Nissan to Massachusetts, and the truck has been left with my mechanic for a week so it should be done when I get back. If one more major thing fails in the next six months, I will probably sell it and buy a new base model 3rd Gen...

    SR is 90% the same truck. Even comes with CarPlay now. Same speakers as my OR too, same head unit. SR 4x4 with new shocks and tires is literally an off-road.

    It just sucks you can't get the 3.5L/6-speed in that trim...

    Yeah it does. Unfortunate. The 3.5 auto combo is still really good, if you don’t mind autos.

    I've been daily driving a 2.7L/auto for over a decade, so I don't mind them, but I learned how to drive stick five years after I got my current truck and wouldn't mind trying something new.

    @MaverickT883

    There is one car I'd replace my Tacoma with if I could actually afford it...

    And I don't know what I'm gonna do if something else breaks. My truck is beginning to blur the line between "it's an old truck with high mileage, and things are gonna break" and just getting annoying. Is there anything else you can think of that could possibly give out on a high-mileage 2TR-FE?

    Fair enough. Maybe a older TRD Sport manual could be found.

    It wouldn't void your warranty, but if something related to it breaks it would not be covered.
