What about the tax, and registration fees on the first truck? In reality it seems like you may have spent 10k to get a truck that MIGHT be worth 9k more.

If you want to make a full accounting, consider the upcoming preventative maintenance costs on a 2 year old vehicle that is coming out of ToyotaCare. The warranty is refreshed too. Not that it's our money anyway, but it doesn't seem crazy these days to upgrade and break somewhat even on it.

100% just a lot of people think they hit a homerun upgrading but in reality they lose money.

A buyer will always find a way to justify to him/ her self why any purchase or trade is justified.
In actuality, it's just a want.
No need to ask or explain why. Whether its thousands in savings, spendings, this or that; if you are set on your decision.
I'd guess to the average Joe, we are content with our single step down on a trim level (TRD) that the next level (PRO) just isn't justified.
This said, enjoy your new purchase.

No chance in September would I buy a current model year. I would wait for the 23. Reality is that I probably wouldn't wait for a 23 since there should be a redesign in 24.

Well, some of us have very little choice; I put a deposit down on my 2022 TRD Sport 6MT in February, got the allocation in August, it got produced in early September (as a 2022, all of two weeks shy of the 2023 cut over), and it won't be delivered to me until mid to late October. Do I care it is a 2022 and not a 2023? Meh, not really. Why? I figure I have between 20 and 30 years left before I get too old and decrepit to be behind a steering wheel, and between now and then I have no plans on ever buying a vehicle with an autotragic transmission (or an electric vehicle for that matter), so while I may buy something newer in the future (Miata, Golf-R, and Cayman are on the short list), any additional new vehicle will A) have three pedals under the dash, and B) need to share garage space with the Tacoma, and both will get handed down to my kids (who are avid stick drivers themselves) when the time comes.

I'm driving a 2006 Acura TL 6MT; I love the car but getting parts is becoming a bit difficult; hence the upgrade to the 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport 6MT which got built two weeks ago. :)

You only pay tax on the difference in value in most states so a few hundred bucks. Registration fees are basically the same (which you have to pay on either), you may have to pay a doc fee but basically that's it.

I have a signed agreement for MSRP with or without trade. This particular dealer just doesn't mark anything up, and as I mentioned earlier they offered to knock $1000 off any incoming SR5.

Dealers are going to get their money one way or another they know they will have multiple people wanting a truck if you don’t get it so unless you go during the end of the month where they need the sales it’s going to be tough

If you got a pro for msrp good job. If you are trading in on it you will get lowballed on the trade. Then they will say yeah but you’ll save on sales tax. To which I replied yeah but I’d save more tax if you paid me what my trade is worth and I’d have another 6k in my pocket.

Good luck, when a dealer near me said they wanted $7500 over MSRP, I countered with MSRP, and the salesman just hung up on me. They'll never get my business, but I guess they don't feel like they need it, either.

I would never, ever, buy an Acura from the asshole dealers in my area. I tried once long ago and they burned that bridge completely down by being cocky like the dealers of our current times. Good dealers will still understand how to make profit and not ruin long term relationships with their neighbors.

    Good luck to you.

Excuse me? Why does the fact I have a 2006 Acura TL 6MT, a car I very much enjoy, cause you to go on an anti-Acura dealer rant?

The market is going to tank in November. Used market is already starting to level out. November and December slowest time of the year for dealers.

Was shopping around for a new tundra in May and there was $2000-5000 MA, along with dealer add ons. Shopping around now and dealers don’t have mark up but do have 1500-3000 in dealer add ons (nitrogen, tint, interior/exterior protection and exterior).

If you can wait 30-60 days, I would definitely hold off.

Hmmm, stick snob, yup, that would be me, although I typically claim to be a self-professed manual transmission bigot. :)
