Hey Tacoma World. I currently have a 2nd gen 2014 double cab Tacoma and love it. Miles are getting a bit higher so I am looking at potentially a new truck.

In a tough spot as I have 3 kids and sometimes the back is a bit tight.

Would love to get a 2021 TRD Pro but may have to go to a full size based on these growing kids. I know the Tacoma is rated for 5 adults so there would be space for them to grow. Full size truck seems like it would be a good amount bigger than the Tacoma and I like the more compact size.

    What's your feedback?

Long term I think it might be best if you upgrade since it might get a little crowded back there. Plus it’s always good to have the space.

Tacoma double cab is fine for you, even if all your kids are 6 feet, they all can fit, not comfortably, but you'll end up saving $15k by not getting a Tundra

One of my former co-workers went with a 22 Tundra Capstone edition for that Crewmax cab.
$74k is a crazy amount to spend on a vehicle IMO, but hey he really was in a similar situation where he had a growing family, a dog, and a woodworking business he planned to use it for.

Tundra, its where I'm going next. I imagine kids are growing, so are their friends and so is the shit they bring on trips. I love my Tacoma, but next is definitely a full size.

Definitely full size, the front seat back nearly Touches the rear seats when slide all the way back, but recline angle at normal position (I have to specify here, as some drive laying down).
I don’t have kids, and view the rear seats as emergency seats or primarily dry storage. I can use the rear passenger seat, have the person in front scoot all the way up (where they’re in my mirror)for a very short trip. I had a buddy that insisted we could take my Tacoma on an out of town trip, until he looked where he’d be sitting for hours, and quickly changed his tune.

You guys apparently didn't grow up in Xtra-cab/King cab 80's Japanese era trucks and it shows!

3 nights a week we found out how many smelly dudes you could stuff into a Toyota Xtra Cab or Datsun King cab on the way to and from hockey practice. We wouldn't have known what to do with double cab room!

Inhad a 2012 Tundra dbl cab before my Tacoma. I have two teen girls who are on the smaller side and the taco feels tight on space. The dbl cab Tundra was a perfect size for us. The crew max feels like a living room in the back lol. The Tacoma is more fun to drive, but it wasn’t more anything while towing a camping trailer with four of us squeezed into the cab.

So if I look at the tundra, what is the difference between the trd off road and TRD pro packages outside of badging?

there's no dedicated TRD Off Road trim of Tundra, just a package that you can add to various trims (except capstone, platinum)
you'll get a light bar, fox shocks, forged wheels going with TRD Pro Tundra, everything else is just cosmetic compared to a TRD off road packaged Tundra

also, in case you're not aware, waitlist for TRD Pro Tundra at MSRP if you decide to join now is probably almost 1 to 2 years, and the higher the markup you're willing to pay, quicker the wait
