Still time to sell the truck and buy that Ridgeline. Ridgelineworld.com sounds fun.

Kidding. Happy it worked out for you.

Glad it was not too bad. I hope you have lot more years with it. Ridgelines are boring.

    Check build thread!
The irony of this is we don’t have auto start stop.

Good deal. I considered a Ridgeline, I've owned good Hondas over the years. But - last I knew 3.5 V6 still used a timing belt rather than chain. For sure with 10+ year old ones I considered. Not that it's definite show stopper, but getting it replaced every 60k miles or so must be a considerable expense.

More than that was the fuel economy. Significantly less than the 2.7L Tacoma, and typically less than the typical 4.0 V6 Tacoma. Still, I'd consider a Ridgeline as a good choice over a full size body on frame pickup truck.

Those new vehicles I hear with their engines starting at stoplights - I'd think that would take a toll on the starter over time.

Phew…glad to hear it was only a thermostat. Hopefully the overheating didn’t cause any other issues ::fingers crossed::

Not quite back on the road; I am in Massachusetts and my truck is back home in PA undergoing some more tests.

I am betting thermostat and you had a pocket at heater core or block. 2nd gens are hard to kill. After 150k I would highly recommend flushes at 50k intervals. My last 2 had issues with cooling doing flushes at 100k intervals.

If the head gasket turns out to be fine, it still doesn't quite explain why my truck is using oil. Before my mechanic replaced the PCV valve and cam cover gasket, it was using oil at a rate of about a quart every 3,500 miles. Now it's less than that, but it still needs oil added a few times between changes; I run full synthetic, but I'm a bit OCD and change it every 5,000 miles as per Toyota's recommendation.

Not uncommon for older vehicles to burn oil as they age.

Maybe your truck was built on a Monday as you stated.

Have the mechanic check it out. But if the truck is running well, adding oil isn’t the worst of things.

Or take it as an omen to sell the truck while it’s running well and buy a newer Tacoma or that Ridgeline.

A quart in 3,500 miles for an older vehicle is nothing to be concerned about as long as the usage is consistent and you aren't leaving smoke trails.

Definitely no smoke trails, and it just passed a state-mandated emissions test (every year in PA) less than a week before it overheated...

Crazy prices but I doubt they will go down. I am really hoping my waitlist truck comes at $34.5K like they promised. Sucks as I was told 22 weeks for delivery. Just hoping at 322k it makes it that long. I drive an hour a day to work and back. Just very hard to find a long bed at retail

My mom has a 2013 Nissan Murano SV AWD that she my and dad bought used on Labor Day Weekend in 2014 with like 12,000 miles on it. In more than 8 years of ownership, the Murano now has only 43K miles on it because my mom just doesn't drive as much as my dad and I do. As most of you know, my Tacoma overheated last Saturday and I had to leave it with my mechanic while I vacation in Massachusetts with my parents. I actually hit 43K somewhere in Connecticut while driving to Massachusetts.

This wasn't as noticeable at first because it was hotter, but I noticed that the A/C seemed to be cycling a lot. Obviously, I am not going to drive with windows down on the Massachusetts Turnpike because it would be too noisy, so I kept the A/C on even when it go into the 60s. The A/C would alternate between blowing ICE COLD and seemingly sucking in unconditioned humid air.

My Tacoma's compressor cycles when I use the A/C in cooler temperatures, but the A/C continues to blow cold. My friend's girlfriend has a 2009 Murano (virtually identical to my mom's) in which the A/C just shit the bed and the compressor had to be replaced. My friend has a 2011 Nissan Altima with the same engine, and likely a similar (if not identical) A/C compressor, and his compressor spontaneously shit the bed a couple months ago. It was literally blowing cold and then it wasn't, and the compressor was still holding a charge when replaced.

So, the A/C in my mom's Murano kept the cabin plenty cool, but the constant cycling was unnerving. The same mechanic who is working on my truck right now works on my parents' cars as well, and I already had an appointment to get the Murano inspected, so I asked Pete about looking at the A/C when he was updating me on my truck over the phone. He said he will check the A/C and recharged it if necessary. This is my mom's car, both of my parents have been made aware of the situation, and they are fine with paying to get it charged if necessary.

What I'm worried about is whether this is a simple case of recharging the system and using UV dye to find a leak, or is the compressor about to go?

Hopefully Pete gives it a good inspection, and fingers crossed it only needs charged.
