And I bet you are more than happy to spend the money, LOL Hope the painting and fan hanging went well.

Today is back to manual labor. Moving some crushed stone to the back of the Tacoma this morning.

Dinner went well last night. Everyone is doing well and my brother is thinking about retiring although he might enter the Executive Service, government employee, for 3 years to boost his retirement.

    Rib roast was excellent!

    Morning all:

The main reason I wanted a CC for gas purchases was when I saw two prices for gas at some gas stations, a cash price and a credit card price, those stations weren't in our area. I figured I was paying the higher of the two by paying with cash in most areas where they only had one price, so with the rewards card it brought the price down to the cash price that they weren't offering.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/credit mavens. All these credit card stories reminded me of what happened back in 2020 after my father passed away. We got all of their accounts moved over to include my mom's name only, including one at a local bank. We asked them to issue a credit card in her name and they could only give her one with a $500 limit -- because she had no credit history! Even though every account and every major purchase they ever made was in both of their names, the agencies totted it all up under my dad's name and not hers. I thought that was pretty rotten of them.

I don't know if I would go so far as to call the credit card industry corrupt; broken and/or flawed certainly, but not corrupt. Do I take advantage of the system via cash rewards? Hell yeah! Do I think rewards encourage me to overspend? No, however, I can see the argument where some folks might be tempted.

Long story short, our current cash-less system isn't perfect, regardless of whether one is rich or poor, has high cash flow or none, and regardless of whether one uses credit or not.

    That right!!!

How about my washer and dryer having an internet connection???

I’m smoking another batch of jerky for my Madison River fishing trip tomorrow. The smoker has a WiFi connection with an interface. I went to sportsman’s warehouse this morning and could keep tabs on the smoker.

The Madison, I’m envious. Haven’t fished it in 20 years, good memories. Use to backpack/trout fish the Montana Bear Tooth wilderness yearly. Some lakes produced a nice cutthroat every other cast. Tight lines on your trip.

Aloha from Maui. Been a couple years since we’ve been here and still as gorgeous as ever. The waters are warm and crystal clear. Great snorkeling. Zillions of things to do here. Oh yeh I’ve seen more Toyota Tacos on this island than anywhere else. I thought it appropriate and started reading James Michener’s book Hawaii an epic and fascinating book (I’m a big Michener fan).Been snorkeling, went to a Luau last night, taking wifey shopping today. Retirement is tough but someone has to do it.
Here’s a pic from our balcony and a pic of the fire dancers last night. Aloha!

My wife applied for a credit card and the clerk was surprised at how high the rating was. I haven't pursued the matter.

You and your wife may have separate credit ratings... Apparently your wife doesn't pay cash for everything.

Her philosophy is the same as mine. Cash for everything.

    Why the credit card?

Any ideas on why your credit rating would be very high when paying cash and mine (and others) would be low?

She had an idea that it was important to have a credit card.

I have no idea why credit ratings are high for some and low for others with similar philosophies. I do not understand why credit ratings are a concern for items that are not related to credit, for example auto insurance rates.

I asked my insurance agent and she said credit scores are considered for insurance because there is evidence that people with lower scores are prone submit more claims.

My wife handles all of our finances, she took over my checkbook when she got a look at it after my junior year in college. 40 years later, I couldn’t tell you when or how much I get paid but the arrangement works. The last I checked our credit rating was in the 810’s which was down a bit from where she had it the mid 820’s. She knows what cards to keep what cards to use and how/when to pay them off.

Personal observation about credit scores. We lease a new SUV every three years. We shop around and I generally show up at the dealers wearing shorts, tee shirt and sneakers because it comfortable and the difference in how we get treated before and after they run a credit check is hysterical.

HA! That's the same thing that happened after I made a deposit at a bank.

A few years ago, back when Hyundai was less reputable, I went in to look at a car and they were "pre-qualifying" me before I had a chance to even look at one of their cars. It was kind of insulting, from my point of view. I wasn't really there to buy... but just because I was curious. I walked without even looking.

About a week later we went to Vegas, and to Wynns. I had to do the same thing, look around, curious about their car showroom full of nice iron. There were five guys huddled in a circle, talking, and I was close enough to overhear their conversation. One was the manager. I waited for them to be freed up and approached the manager to ask some questions. He treated me very nicely... like a real person and as though I was a potential customer... but not aggressively selling. We had a nice conversation and as a result my wife and I had a fairly serious conversation about one of the cars. I'll never forget what my wife said...

I told her I was interested in a Ford GT40, and they had two in their showroom. Without even a slight hesitation, not the blink of an eye, she said, "I kind of like the blue one with the white stripe."

What kind of a wife says that? It's why I married her. (Well, that and a few other things.)

We had the money in a checking account. Because of the way we'd been spoken to we considered for several days while we were visiting.

But I, to this day, have no interest in a Hyundai.
