Papa Todd from Project Farm told me Pennzoil Plat is the best reasonably priced oil, losing to Amsoil by fairly slim margins, so it must be true.

    Agreed!

I think that if one is planning on 10,000 mile or longer oil change intervals, Amsoil might be a good choice. But, I don't think the extra money is worth it if you're going to do 5,000 mile changes.

Ran Mobil One up to 100K miles. Then switched to PP HM. I found the infamous Taco Tick to be less noticable with the PP. Now at 165K miles and don't burn an ounce of oil.

I'm using OEM filter and Mobile 1, changing at 5K. Watched this video the other day. Showed internal of engine where oil changed every 10k miles...engine ended up burning oil. A Toyota engine, but not a V6 4.0L.

    https://youtu.be/TJhFAwFv-O0

As suggest above, I think a quality filter and oil change frequency are the factors that matter, both more important than oil brand.

Well, if you read through the manual, it pretty much suggests 5,000 mile intervals for anything other than highway driving. That's why I'm doing 5,000 mile changes on my 4Runner, and I don't get hung up on brands.

My 2003 4Runner got the oil changed every 10,000 miles for the period that I had it. It ran perfectly when I traded it in with 257000 miles on it. But, that one saw mostly highway miles.

I've been using Costco oil for a while. The last I bought was about $25 for two 5-quart jugs. I think it is now $35 for 10 quarts. And I've done 10,000-mile oil changes since new. That was 15 years and 228,000 miles ago. Truck still runs like new, and I've never added a drop of oil between changes.

A lot of guys overthink this stuff. Which oil doesn't matter and you can go a lot longer between changes than a lot of guys think. The key is to keep oil in it. My mechanic has seen a car go 100,000+ miles with no oil changes. And even after that the engine only died because they let it run out of oil.

This is great oil and it meets or exceeds Toyota’s specs. Read the back panel but if it makes you feel better spending more money for some fancy shmancy big name oil then do it.

Have always ran Castrol GTX 5-30 in all my Toyota's w/ OEM filters. Have driven many of these vehicles over the years putting 300-400K on them.

and when you service your front diff, put this bad boy in its place (Lexus/standard bolt), the hex bolt on your front diff will strip in time, best to replace with a standard whenever your next servicing is, if it hasn’t already been replaced that is.

Pennzoil platinum high mileage for me. Project farm has a good video summarizing all of the popular brands, and the only oil that bested the Pennzoil was amsoil by a small margin but 3x the price. Running it on my past two vehicles over 100k miles with no problems

I use Wallyworld's 20k oil and change it at every 10k. My truck sounds the same as when I got it from the dealer.

Regarding the video on Mobil 1, Amazon Basic, and Valvoline... I don't trust Amazon.
