    Yea you just get up at 1 am and 5 am and borrow the neighbors cord and they are none the wiser except they can’t figure out why their car was charging so slow

    I would expect an infrastructure to arise somewhat akin to parking meters - wired poles regularly spaced in places where electric vehicles are parked.

    We also have an extensive wireless infrastructure already in place and growing, so a charging service would likely utilize it.

    Usage would be subscription based, with a pay-per-charge option available. Plug in, scan the meter with the app, and the app shows the progress. If the cable is disconnected the "session" ends, preventing an electron thief from charging up another vehicle on someone else's session. The car's owner would also be notified via the app that their session was interrupted, whereupon they can grab their bat and go to town on the dickhead who unplugged them.

    These system behaviors aren't that difficult to code.

    What will be harder is gathering the investment for installing the initial infrastructure...which after a short period will then fund further installations. Residential streets, strip mall and shopping center parking lots, parking garages - they'll all be able to make supplemental income by also joining the charging game. By this point it will be harder to find a place to park that doesn't have charging stations in at least half of it than to find one without. Simply trench, set your stations, franchise your meter collection, and "join the grid."

    If a neighborhood doesn't have this expanded capability, there will still be an overwhelming preponderance of public options. Charge your car while you're at work or at the grocery store, and not worry about having to charge at home because you'd still have a 90% - 95% charge and a remaining 300 mile range just from picking up groceries and a charge on the way home.



    C'mon, gimme a hard one.



    Society will figure all of this out as the opportunities present themselves.

    Already have that one figured out in locales where it gets cold, very cold. - plug ins for block heaters - at home, at work, at hotels, etc... a technical challenge with a solution already available.

    a trailer for the genset with a rubbermaid garbage can filled with fuel, gravity feeding the 5kW generator.

    The test for those trailers is to fill them with landscaping gear, then see how many latinos can ride in the pickup truck box and trailer, in the empty spaces.

    I shit you not, saw that on I20 between Dallas & Ft Worth, not the trailer, but a landscape company pickup truck towing a trailer, with 4 people in the back of the open pickup truck box, in between a lawnmower and hand implements.

    I'd disagree. Licking a live electrical conductor does not end well; and many a copper thief have found out its a bad idea.
