That’s why you should add a rental option (whatever they call it) on to your insurance. Also, I know of Rivian providing an R1T loaner in a case of service. I don’t know if that is the norm for longer turnaround times.

My brother-in-law is getting this on the windshield to minimize the need for a replacement: https://www.stek-usa.com/windshield-film

Something else to think about which I didn’t before is the latest talk about how EVs are using up tires faster than normal vehicles. Just one extra set of tires over the life of the vehicle completely negates the oil change savings.
You also have to factor in the cost of adding a charging station to your home. i currently spend around $3K a year on gas for my truck. Say you cut out two thirds of that by going electric (costs $1K a year to charge). You’re only saving $2K a year but you spent an extra $30K+ to do it.

TBH with a PHEV I'm only using L1 charging, so my 'EVSE' just uses an extension cord.

As for electricity costs - it's region dependent, but here it sums up to 5c/mile on electrons, 10c/mile on gasoline (R4P). 20c/mile on the taco. The rivians are less efficient than my R4P though, so that'll be a little higher. Maybe 7 or 8 c/mile, more if you drive it like a loon.

Quad motor configurations of the Rivian just went up another $2000 this week.

Yeah it won’t be saving any money, it is kinda like justifying the upcharge of diesel over a gas in a 1 ton. Sometimes it isn’t all about money, one particular vehicle may fit the needs more, or simply just want it. Rivian’s target market probably isn’t fretting too much over cost.

What part of the country are you in? Electricity averages around 25c/kWh here in MA. I end up paying around 25c/mile with my Tacoma averaging 16 mpg and needing mid grade gas. It’s pretty terrible.

And a Toyota Camry is also half the price of a luxury sedan. Other than having four doors they are not similar at all.

    Wow, you’re getting screwed.

15¢/kWh here in Oregon AND that’s paying the small premium to get 100% renewable energy.

    Jesus! 25¢?! 15¢?

9¢/kWh here in Manitoba. That's less than 7¢ in USD

I was going “all in” to get the 15¢. As you can see the actual per kWh cost is much lower.

    676953AD-A883-4E62-9C63-5AF74C02D0F9.jpg

There are other fees that bring it up to total of $112.08 for the 744 kWh used.

Still wild. All in I'd pay easily half that. I also don't need to pay a premium for renewable since our power is already renewable.

Pretty crazy to see the difference in pricing. It's a lot easier to justify getting rid of a gas vehicle here. We pay more for gas than most states do as well.

Man I completely take for granted our low energy costs. Our utility is also community owned.

Pretty sure he's comparing prices between the Tacoma TRD Pro and a R1T.
