303 aero protectant is your friend. Put it on all the exposed rubber and plastic parts (and the engine room too if you feel like it). You’ll never have that problem and I live in Florida too

There's actually been multiple threads over the years on this in the 2nd Gen forum, including the same fix OP used (i.e. sand & coat).

While I do agree/like your suggestion of using a more "permanent" type of trim coating, Cerakote specifically says theirs is only to be used on plastic and NOT rubber.

Molding on the moulding huh? Well, I just leave it there as a protectant. Works well.

So I actually live in SWFL as you do (I think). I get a kick out of walking my dog and seeing inside people's garages; you can tell the age of the house by all the old original kitchen cabinets that are put up in the garage after the kitchen gets its 30 year remodel. That chandelier, though -- that's special. You must be in the good part of town.

I've also seen a few garages with old, outdated ceiling fans installed up there. Actually not a bad idea.

That's weird. I'd expect that if you parked where there was not much sun and it was damp. My camper gets that and the green stuff on one side. But my truck hasn't. I do wash it about once a month and use 303.

not sure if it's mold or just deterioration from the sun. wouldn't be surprised if it's mold though in Florida humidity. one more reason to stay out of Florida if mold is that ubiquitous.

I think lots of tacomas experience this. Not just in Florida. No other trim on my truck is damaged at all. It all looks brand new. Weird problem to have.

I live on the other coast, SE FL. My personal favorite is how many people here put full length screen doors on their garages so they can keep the garage door open and use it as a sort of family room. They put in TVs, lounge chairs, etc.

I think that's just a lot of retired guys who really, really want some peace and quiet away from the wife.

This is the best for that mold in the parts where the mold is...with two or three applications it disappears...
