Dude we were on top of them for several days (stinky bedding, wallows, fresh poop, rubs, etc) and never got a shot on one. Not surprising (I think it was Lakota) that the native Americans in that area named them something that translates to “ghosts of the forest”

It really threw me off that she ran towards me to begin with. I could make some sense of it knowing the loud sound of the rifle going off probably through her into pure panic, not knowing which direction it came from. But I know she saw me eventually when she made the cut away and spooked, but I assume she just didn't know what I was, so stopped on my weak side to look back and figure it out. It was when she just watched me fumble the rifle to left hand position that I concluded okay, this deer might be extra special lol.

It's crazy how loud they can be but go totally silent when they want.

Didn’t get a chance for Colorado. Buddy had to return and since I was his ride.. that meant I was headed home too. Hoping to find time to get back out there but unlikely to happen

Back in April I found out the farm I hunt (~1,000 acres) was being sold to a land trust. This borders another property that they picked up in late 2017. While I was glad it wouldn't be developed (as planned with McMansions), I've seen the results of overuse and such by the general public on other Conserancy land. To the point where several have been closed because of folks leaving trash all over, parking on others property, just general bad behavior.

In a typical year we receive notifications our lease permits will be made available on the second Saturday of September. This year. Nothing. We've been trying to get info from the landowners, Conservancy, anyone that may have had info. Nothing. Monday, as I was driving thru the property, I ran into one of the gentleman that run the lease. Stopped, quick chat. And we are good to go for our final year. Next year it will be most likely open to the public and become a typical PA public land nightmare. It's been a good ride, 15 years or so. Lotsa memories. Sons first archery kill, first archery buck... Now another hunt begins. For new property.

I did leave my trail cams out. This guy has shown up for about a week now. Needs to show up on 01-Oct.

Can't go wrong with either, there's both great hunting and fishing out here.

I hear ya Bob. Our area is dryer than a popcorn fart. Acorns and paw-paw's are already dropping.
