Remember that story you told me about that traveling trumpeter who funds his lifestyle by buying Blanton's in high availability areas and selling it in low availability areas?

And I said we should join him on cowbell and slide whistle and form a whiskey based band?

    The Blantones?

    I stand by that.

I will play cowbell in exchange for bourbon, if that’s what you mean.

The trumpet player, by the way, once brought 51 bottles of Blanton’s back from his cross country trip to the yearly music festival. This year it was only in the 30’s. The tragedy. I estimate his profit was close to $2K after that 51 bottle trip.

    WT101 is undefeated.

Good enough to sip neat, cheap enough to use in cocktails, low proof enough to not kill newbies, high proof enough to satisfy experienced palates, easily available everywhere at the price it should be.

Anyone interested in trading my scotch for their American whiskey or bourbon?
I’ve got a few bottles I’ll never open as scotch doesn’t really tickle my fancy

the American whiskey/bourbon doesn’t need to be something highly allocated or anything, just looking for something I’ll drink and enjoy

Nightcap on my last night of travel in FL, the state where all your bourbon dreams can come true (for a price).

Trying Angel’s Envy again…last time I tried it I didn’t like it much. But I keep talking to people who LOVE it, so thought I’d give it another shot.

It’s good…but maybe I’m just not enthusiastic about the port finish. Takes away from the classic bourbon vanilla and caramel flavors.

So is there a point where you guys make sure to finish an open bottle? I’ve read mixed advice on how long to keep a bottle that’s been opened. Curious what your thoughts are, it never occurred to me that bourbon might have shelf life.

You'll hear a lot of conflicting opinions on that, but I say don't sweat it. So looking as you check your corks often or use parafilm for longterm storage you'll be fine. I've got bottles that have been open for a few years and they are just as delicious as the day they were cracked. Hell I have some that are 4 years old now that I think about it.

Jimmy Russell still has a bottle in his office from before prohibition. I don’t think bourbon “expires”, but the flavor will change in the bottle very slowly over time, with sunlight, temp changes, air, etc. I don’t think there’s any need to rush to finish a bottle out of fear of the flavor changing, because it happens so slowly.

Look at him... judging my Ardbeg like some sort of whisky snob. He's just mad he's not old enough to drink.

    +1

Finishing, flavoring, etc. has never appealed to me.

Just make me good whiskey. No need to get cute.
