Thanks so much, very interesting, and if not for the observers may have went unnoticed.

They have cameras there to record goings on and have captured similar events in the past but definitely cool that someone was there in person to observe it.

This has been quite the year for Death Valley weather wise. Dare I ask, what next…

Sadly, the cameras were the result of some people either trying or hoping the fence. They may or may not also have motion sensors buried there as well. Or so I am told.

Probably due to more idiot divers wanting to explore it… there’s at least 1 lost in the underground there.

The weather isn't too out of the norm. Flash floods happen and rain events (and road damage) have occurred several times since I began exploring the area in 2008.

I thought the cameras were in place and captured those jackholes.

It’s almost like Mother Nature doesn’t want us paving Death Valley!

DVNP has been updating road conditions the past few days. Note that you can click on road segments on the map and get more information for some of them.

Especially important to note: Some backcountry roads are marked “closed” because they run up washes which have erased the original route and the NPS doesn’t want folks driving up the wash making new routes. So there are probably backcountry routes that are totally passable to a decent vehicle but they have them officially closed presumably until they can blade/mark a route. Please check the maps before heading out to see if a backcountry segment is marked closed.

Still no estimates on the 190 segments over the Inyos and Panamints, though a comment on the map indicates the Inyo side is “likely closed for weeks”. Poor Panamint Springs Resort must be getting next to no traffic with the only paved access being a dead end trip up from Trona.

Anyone been out recently? I'm in Ridgecrest if there's a crew getting together.

I also saw on their FB page that the road up to Cerro Gordo got washed out again after they had repaired it from the first series of storms.

Diesel Dave and Heavy D were out in Cerro Gordo a few weeks back filming and helping when the road first washed out. Using remaining heavy equipment, those who live there were able to at least grade the road to make it passable then. But I doubt the road has gotten any better. It was amazing how much of the road washed away.

I wonder how the conditions are on the other two roads (the one that heads northeast, and the one out to Swansea).
