Can anyone give a step by step on how to use the Eco screen for gas mileage history or point to the page in the user manual ? Sometimes mine doesn't update, sometimes it leaves the date blank as xx/xx/xx or the date updates but not the mpg ?

Not a Tacoma, but this might get you there. Couldn’t find anything in the manual.

my range says 292 miles. but i have over 4 gallons left in the tank when it says its empty so it's not very accurate.

At low speeds weight and hills dominate mileage and above ~45 it’s air resistance. At altitude the air is thinner so resistance drops but the throttle plate has to open more but you can still get better mileage than at sea level. Momentary average is meaningless though since “momentary” and “average” don’t go together. Next time fill the tank and do the math because “3/4”, 1/4” are too vague. Full, miles driven, and full again at least gets the margin down to where the auto shut off on the pump is and that’s less than a quart. The screen is helpful for seeing how your driving at one point vs another but it’s one of those ymmv things. It’s likely you did get great mileage though so remember how you were driving and keep it up.

This is a huge miss by a lot of people. Think about it, nascar vehicles have these and it’s a way to reduce vehicle lift, so it has to help with resistance, and therefore gas mileage, especially on highways

So for me, I’m stock tires (toyo a30), no lift, airdamn is on. I added a Bakflip mx4 which is about 100lbs (not sure if a tonneau cover helps but there’s debate around it). I’m a DCLB sr5 6cyl. And I don’t drive above 70mph. And I would say I average 29-31mpg. And I also feel the gas efficiency in my wallet when I fill up. I came from a 2010 dclb that was only getting 19-20mpg …..50% more gas mileage!!!!

Wont resetting one of the trip odometers also perform a reset of the Economy estimate? I seem to recall resetting it, and having it climb up from some ridiculously low number.

I'm running similar configuration, but with a Tyger Soft Cover. What pressure are you running in the tires?

I had the same experience when i ran a trd k&n filter in my tundra...lost a mpg, and really didn't notice any power increase. I went back to a wix air filter, and later added a flowmaster with cats, and dual exhaust system. I immediately notice more power above 2500 rpm.

the funniest part of this thread are the boomers in here that absolutely hate technology but also 100% trust their dash and think they somehow got a magical tacoma that gets 40mpg :rofl::rofl:

like toyota is sandbagging MPG numbers and reporting shitty ones to the EPA for some reason :rofl::rofl:

Most of the time my truck is only hauling me. I have hauled some light equipment and tools or dirt bikes in the bed during this past tank. A few trips hauling my kids with me. But I do drive intentionally to maximize fuel economy. Like I stated previously, on the highway I travel 60 mph because the economy is better than at 65. Around town I’ve found the truck bumps up over 30 mpg on the display once I get into 6th gear at 35 mph and mosey down the road. But my report is fact, based on my normal driving activities, about 50/50 highway and town. No wind-pushing involved.

I just got my Tacoma 4x4 DCSB and drive it like a grandpa to try and max my MPGs - I get about 19-20 with a mix of mostly city and some highway. And I am in FL, so no hills. Plus, I still have the ugly air dam on (for now). Seems to me like the stars would have to align to get north of 25 mpg is these 6cyl trucks.

    Oh look, another mod....
Bro, if you put nitrogen in those tires, it'll add another 5MPG easy!

I recently did a 7hr road trip. All highway 75-80mph. Probably averaged closer to 80. 18.4mpg. a month ago I went on another road trip. 6hrs. 55-60mph probably closer to 60. 21.7mpg. I wish I had a 7th gear on those highway runs.

They must have improved aerodynamics and powertrain efficiency big time since the gen 2. I have a 2011 2.7 2wd 5spd with skinny little 215/70 15 tires 3.15 gears and rarely exceed 65mph. Highway mileage is usually 25 to 26 mpg per tank, never higher.

That’s what I hear too, but I’m just afraid my truck couldn’t handle it, so I hesitate.

    Is it street legal?
