Honestly, I don't even secure the front (or rear tire). For on road driving, it doesn't move much. I'll put something between the tires if I have multiple bikes, but otherwise I have never secured the rear tire and it stays put pretty well. I suppose if I really hit a nasty bit of road it could potentially be an issue, but not so far and I have hit some pretty gnarly RR track crossings.

Not the best picture, but in the ferry line to Victoria BC. Super bike friendly (but bring a heavy lock), highly recommend for cruising

My only gripe with carbon is resale value. It seems that people are more willing to buy an aluminum bike with some scratches vs a carbon bike with some scratches even if none of it structural. Since I'm a bit accidentally prone it eases my mind knowing I can get an aluminum bike, try it out, crash it a few times, still get some money back if I decide its not the bike for me.

Obviously but now realize I should have used better verbiage. I realize there are carbon downhill bikes. Check out the context of the conversation - I'm telling the reason these companies continue to manufacture aluminum bikes (not cost-related) but I believe more durable material

I guess this "science" disproving my point. FAKE NEWS, IT'S RIGGED

    Yeah.
No love for steel? Converted my Sawyer to an urban assault bike. Steel is where it's at.

Also if anyone wants like new 29x2.6 Specialized Ground Control/Fast Tracks for the cost of shipping shoot me a PM. I hate the idea of tossing tires, but I also hate them lying around unused.

Guerilla gravity make amazing steel bikes if that is your preferred flavor. Orange, Linskey, kingdom, there are others out there that make bike from Ti, Al, or steel and are amazing builds.
But after you charge thru a steep and chunky line after hucking into it on a full carbon bike with carbon bars, wheels and cranks too, you’ve never lived. Soooooo much smoother. Granted suspension settings make a big diff but if all was equal then there is no question.

Crested Butte bike park is pretty fun! Captain Jack is one of the better trails I've ridden.

I'm a big fan of steel and want to try titanium eventually... I am tossing the idea around of selling my Stache and getting a steel bike to replace it.

Had a bit of a riding funk. Getting back into it and I will be picking up a Specialized Rockhopper Elite 27.5 today. Pretty excited about it and getting back into riding.

I'm probably the odd one out here rocking an aluminum bike with carbon wheels and bars...I think it's a great combo. I weighed my ripley af and it came out to just under 32 pounds...a little heavy but I can't even feel it. After this bike revelation I'm definitely on the side of the suspension design makes the biggest difference.

Single pivot vs VPP or Dw link of course there is worlds diff. Im saying if all was equal to feel the difference in frame material.

Fair enough haha. To your point, my carbon gravel bike is 100 times more comfortable than my aluminum bike. Plus the carbon frame is noticeably stiffer in the bottom bracket area.

Exactly. Imagine how much faster youd be with wheels that don’t deflect and stay in a true circular shape despite its load.
