Doubtful, because having only one engine cuts manufacturing costs. Might be a choice between hybrid and non-hybrid though.

If we get a V6 option it will probably be on the TRD Pro only

Guessing it will be the hybrid 4 turbo with a different tune.

It is what GM is going.

“The base 2.7-liter makes 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque. Under the 2.7-liter Turbo Plus banner, the four-cylinder makes 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The top rung 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output also delivers 310 hp but cranks up available torque to 430 lb-ft.“

@Carmaker1 previously said that Toyota is planning to go "all out" on the 4th Gen. I am hoping that means there will be a v6, but who knows.

    lol!

and while the manufacturer cuts costs, it will raise prices to the consumers.

There's an auto industry insider on this website who has all but guaranteed the motor will be the hybrid MAX version of the 2.4L turbo'd 4 banger from the Lexus NX350h and the new 2023 Highlander.

    https://toyota-club.net/files/faq/21-09-20_faq_t24-engine_en.htm

Go take one for a test drive, the motor hauls ass.

I'm assuming the next gen tacoma will get a similar powertrain like the new crown has. Thankfully I got my V6 when I did!

Idk, hybrid turbo 4 with a LOT of electric assist might be pretty darned good. No torque flat spot issues, plenty of range on gas .. I'm rooting for PHEV levels of battery.

I dunno, loved every incarnation of the North American compact Toyota Truck. Especially starting in the late 70's early 80's with the first 4X4. I found them really appealing overall. Loved the design, the looks, the simplicity and they way Toyota engineered them. Been in love ever since. Hated the Domestic Malaise era as a kid growing up in the 70's. I'm really confident that I will love the 4th gen Tacoma as well.

    None yet. :)
Honestly, if they sorted the rear passenger window which is awful, that, Jacked up running on gig tires would actually look pretty decent.

    Toyota will get it right.

They usually do. But never buy 1st year of a new generation

If hybrid max engine, means that 99.9% the Tacoma will be auto only. Sadness.

I know. I have a 6MT on my taco, but to be honest, as long as it's the same system as the rest of the yota hybrids, losing manual ratio control isn't a huge loss.

I want crazy amounts of control over the regen, though, instead of just faking it with the 'gear selector'. Just put it on dial - 'max' should be almost close to one pedal, 'minimum' should be pretty close to leaving it in neutral.

Same, 70s-even to the early 2000s US trucks were awful. Feel like they are finally catching up to the Japanese.

From owning Toyotas for so long, enjoying the small incremental improvements over the years, yet still feel like a Toyota. Even something as small as the gutters on either side of the windscreen. My old truck didn’t have that so when you would use the washer you would get spray all over the door window or in the cab if it were down. Thought that was a nice touch.

Used to be a curmudgeon thinking the old stuff was better, but after owning this new truck…looking forward to new model. May even trade in early, and that is very unlike me, since drove the old truck over 20 years now. Fairly sure they are going to fix the soft bottom end that so many complain about, though a couple few will still bitch on how they had to it. (Turbo 4)

Looking forward to the turbo 4. Had a turbo 4 in the Wrangler and with the 8 speed auto that powertrain is vastly better than the current v6 in the Tacoma driveability wise.

I’m curious about the front end. The Tundras grill is horrendous. I hope the new Tacoma looks closer to the EV prototype and not the Tundra.
