Nailed it!!! Always look to the easy shit first.

    You and me both

Using a quart every 4-5K isn't horrible even if it's a newer vehicle. I use the blend so IDK what the usual for full synth is. As long as you don't have a mosquito killer don't sweat it. Oil is cheap enough..and I've owned a few old vehicles that used a quart a week.

Up there if not the biggest, no argument here.

It happens, especially where your example had a history of it being thus

I'm old, I still work okay..

All I’m saying is after my night shift, I hopped in my 3rd gen, using keyless entry, started it without touching the key in my pocket, flipped my auto high beams on, turned my heated seats onto setting 2 (just right for this fall-summer night), turned my auto climate control a touch up to 73 degrees, and cruised home with my radar cruise control.

Just arrived at Legal Seafood in Lynnfield to meet up with @ABA180 and almost nailed a Bentley as I turned into the shopping center. The driver of the Bentley would have been at fault had an accident occurred, and I'm guessing the idiot was texting. The Bentley didn't have a front license plate so I don't know if they're from MA or not...

The service writer was super nice after I told the owner “yeah, your service bitch told me that some just run hot”. I mean I have been a customer for a while and it’s not that I do not have the ability to do what I am paying you to do it’s that I can afford not to. Anyway, he changed his tune when I picked it back up. And it does not help that I loath service writer and parts people for the most part. I did both of those jobs when I was younger and prided myself on knowing my job. Back then most service writers were also mechanics, I was and service writer was a promotion and gave me the ability to go work in the shop and do diagnostics before I even wrote the service ticket. Times change I guess. I stopped by our local Chevy dealer to get a new center cap for my wife’s Tahoe a while back. After standing and waiting for 15 min while two senior parts guys bullshitted right in front of me and told me someone would be right with me a young guy came out of the back and said he needed the vin or he could not assist me. I was so floored I just left and ordered it online. When I was a parts guy I would go repair your car in the parking lot half the time. I love it now when they ask you if it’s a 4x4 when you try to get wiper blades. I am like, you know what dude. It does not fucking matter and you should know that!

I was at our local NAPA a couple weeks ago and needed a replacement belt for a fan at work. After the kid behind the counter brought me two belts that were over an inch off I said “bud, just grab your belt measuring tool”. He said “we don’t have that” I said, “yeah, but I bet you do. Show me your belts” he took me in the back and hanging to the left on the wall of belts was a Dayco belt measuring device with about an inch of dust on it. I said, alright let’s grab that crazy looking yard stick up there and I’ll teach you a trick. He had no idea you could measure a belt and that they made a tool for it.

The good news is that the leak-down test went great and my truck does not need a new head gasket. The bad news is that (at least this is my mechanic's theory) the stuck thermostat caused the long pipe (16268) seen in the diagram below to leak and now that has to be replaced. My mechanic is shocked that this part is made of plastic...

If you get it fixed for that pipe and a t-stat call it a win.

And the old one was made of plastic. Apparently this has been a big enough issue that Toyota redesigned the part and made it from metal instead. My mechanic was shocked that they used plastic in the first place...

I am a total newb at driving in MA, especially in the Boston suburbs...

Today, I was driving back to the rental house after going to the Salem Witch Museum, and I may have kinda sorta made a left turn after the light turned red. We all make mistakes. I have turned on a red after having previously entered the intersection before, and never had an issue; I came to this 4-way intersection that was an absolute zoo, and I'm 99% sure the light was green or yellow when I entered the intersection. The car in front of me made a left turn, and the traffic going straight in the opposite direction was stopped. I started to make a left, but then I saw a late model black Honda Civic coupe coming from the opposite direction in the right turn lane; I stopped and the Civic made a right turn without incident. I was nowhere near hitting this guy. So, the black Civic goes into the left turn lane and I keep going straight. The driver of the Civic was a muscular guy with blonde hair in a crew cut, probably in a little older than me but no older than 40. He did not look like the friendliest guy in the world, and I could tell by his body language that he "wanted to have a word with me"; I breathed a sigh of relief when I passed him and he ended up probably three cars behind me in the other lane. Unfortunately, as stated above, he was in the left lane and I was in the straight lane. The left arrow turned green, and his lane started moving; I looked in my side view mirror and saw the Civic's passenger window going down, and the driver did not look happy. I had all of my windows down, and my light was still red, so with nothing else to do I just put all the windows up. Unlike my Tacoma, my mom's Murano has power windows. The black Civic stops next to me and I just look straight ahead, not wanting to make eye contact with this meathead. He definitely said the F-word, but I had the windows up and the radio on so I didn't hear everything. From what I could tell, it sounded like he said "It's fucking red!"

The black Civic had Massachusetts plates and as soon as I passed this guy, he saw my Pennsylvania plate, so that probably did not help matters. Keep in mind that this guy had a green light and there were other vehicles behind me, so he was ultimately forced to keep going with me acknowledging his presence.

I was in an unfamiliar area at rush hour, and it's not like I cut him off or beeped at him, so I think he was largely in the wrong; I really think that society as a whole has forgotten how to interact at a personal level, and I've encountered a lot of these bozos since April 2020 (and not just on the road), when I was either doing nothing wrong or like today when I made a simple mistake. I'm a nice guy, and I may be a little bit reckless, but I am not stupid. The guy in the Civic was clearly reckless and stupid. Quite what would possess him to engage with a perfect stranger over a such a petty thing, I do not know.

In either April or May of 2020, I went to a cars and coffee like three miles from my house. Some guy found it odd that I was taking pictures of a Porsche 911 and some kind of late model Ferrari, even though it was clearly an event where this behavior was encouraged. Hell, the majority of people would not find it odd to see somebody taking pictures of a Ferrari just sitting in a parking lot outside of a car show on an ordinary day; I did this right here in Massachusetts earlier this week!

I don't know what this guy's deal was, but he approached me while I was taking pictures of a Porsche 911 and asked what was going on; I told him that it was a cars and coffee, and moved on to the Ferrari. He followed me and asked why I was taking pictures of peoples' cars; I about lost my shit with him and told him that (A) this was a Ferrari, and (B) this is basically a car show. He obviously hadn't understood what "cars and coffee" meant, but seemed to understand when I referred to it as a car show. He also stated that he wasn't a car expert and apologized, though even people who don't know much about cars do know a Ferrari when they see one... o_O

This random dude wandered off after I formally explained that this was a Ferrari at a car show, and was ultimately spared the wrath of yours truly losing his patience...

And everybody knows these stories; I came very close to knocking out a perfect stranger at Mission BBQ in June 2020 because he decided it was a good decision to get in my face and lecture me for not wearing my mask properly. Luckily, the restaurant manager could tell that a fight was about to break out and intervened, taking my side and making the other guy leave. That was the first of probably three or four mask-related incidents I had over the course of the next year or so...

Then, there was the drunk redneck who came up to my driver's window at the Carlisle Truck Nationals in August 2021 and called me a "fucking commie" for daring to have an American flag license plates bolted to the front of a Toyota...

My theory? People spent more time on social media than outside during the pandemic and have forgotten how to interact. They think that they're safely at home on their computer, when they're actually getting in the face of a guy who could kick their ass if he really wanted to.
