    So, MT guys

Always in order, never skipping a gear?

    Or.

Whichever you feel you need. 6-4, 3-6?

I like rowing through all of them, but I will sometimes go 6 to 3 when needed.

I rarely skip a shift on the way up, but very frequently do 6-4, 5-3, and 4-2.

    Your transmission hates you:oops:

I had a Honda crx and used to go from 5th to 2nd. The rear end would literally lift off the ground, turn the front wheels left or right....A 90 degree turn could be achieved ;)

I skip 5th a lot. I skip everything else sometimes too. Up and down. Only skip one gear. Depends on the conditions, lunar cycles, etc.

    Every warranty available.
Never skip going up, often skip going down. I'll easily go 6 to 4 or 5 to 3, 4 to 2. I do not skip more than one gear at a time. 2K rpm difference feels/sounds like you already made a poor choice imho.

The spongy accumulator takes alot of the oomph and fun out of the process, but arguably makes it a pretty thoughtless and comfy drive.

My dd is a 6 speed. It really depends on the situation, I don't think one is better or worse than the other, manual gives you the ability to put it in whatever gear you want/need. I find myself skipping 5th often in my tC.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
With my '21 TRD OR AC auto I let the transmission decide.
With my previous '06 TRD ORD AC manual I would skip to whatever gear made sense for the conditions. No need to hit every gear when upshifting if the torque wasn't needed to get to cruising speed (e.g. when headed downhill). I'd skip one or two gears when slowing for a turn if the power wasn't needed for engine braking or to regain appropriate speed.

5th in 3rd gens is completely useless.

Waiting for someone to make a new gear kit for the trans. I want 6th gear to be 5th and 6th to be a full highway (75-80mph) overdrive. 75mph should be closer to 1500-1800rpms.

    Depends.
If the gear you want falls in the road speed you are at go for it.

For example I like to crank it up in 3ed gear on a highway on ramp, if I'm at 60 mph in 3ed I go right to 6th.

The same with coasting down from a higher speed, no need to do a bunch of shifting, just let it fall to the speed you want and select the appropriate gear.

Listen to the power train, it will tell you if it is happy or not, keep it sounding happy and all is well.

BTW: About 2000 rpm is where this engine starts putting decently, if you are selecting a gear with that as a minimum things are usually smooth.

it's not great for the synchro longevity but I guess if you rev match it should be fine.

Not here. Smooth as butter. At 45mph, the revs difference is only 1,250rpm. Literally a blip.

I find 5th to be a good "suburban" gear.

Many local roads are rolling hill 55 mph 2 lanes, 6th can be a bit too tall, 5th being perfect.

The gear set you have described would be useless in my area, the maximum speed limit is 70.

The V6 produces Brigg & Stratton level torque below 2000 rpm, the road would need to be as flat as a tabletop.

I use 5th a ton on my local gravel backroads which is most of my day to day driving.

So I think my he gearing is fine but you'll very rarely find me going 80mph.

I'm in the same boat (and I don't even have my Tacoma yet), around here the rolling hills are just a bit too much for 6th in either of our cars; so 5th gets the nod until we get on the freeway.

Ouch! I remember living in LA back in the late 1970s, my (then) 1970 Challenger spent most of it's freeway time between 1st and 3rd; I didn't typically get up to 4th unless I was driving in the middle of the night or headed down to San Diego.

On upshifts l almost always skip 5th, if l feel like mixing it up l will skip 4th instead, and occasionally 4th and 5th.
