Good morning all. Fishing the Madison in Montana is a little tough this year. The water is running about a foot+ lower than normal. Pockets and holes that I’ve know for years are gone. The fish count is about half of what I usually get in the 25 years I’ve been doing this. Still the browns are getting ready to spawn and their colors are bright. Still a bad day fishing beats just about anything. Have a good day.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Looks like mowing this morning to me! Was 67* an hour ago, but that's not going to stick! Then, back to the truck project. I got nothing done yesterday - the butt nerve leg was killing me. Literally, a pain in the .....
Hoping to get to a different kind of show tomorrow.

Gonna be a busy weekend in Florida. I don’t like the looks of this storm track

Going to gas up both cars, get the spare propane tank refilled and exercise the generator this weekend.

That's a shame... Tecumseh used to make some good stuff. Beancounter syndrome kills a lot of businesses.

Agreed, when shopping for a snowblower (more than) a few years ago, I found a brand which I liked which featured two otherwise identical units, one with a Briggs & Stratton, and one with a Tecumseh for something like a $50 premium; I gladly paid the extra fifty-bucks.

Making progress on our basement bar - need to poly the countertops and then finish the lower trim and run the lights for the shelves. Heading to Hilton Head Island SC for the week so it will have to wait until we get back. Of course, the storm that's forming may change our plans a bit.

I talk to people on a Cattle Forum and the livestock producers in Texas have really been hurting.

It is sad, but very true. It's approaching California levels. Drought map is a regular feature on local weathercasts.

Shoot, you can have it. I’ve lived here for 30+ years and by dumb luck never really had to worry about hurricanes. Irma went up the middle of the state as a minimal cat-1 storm a few years ago and lumped us up pretty good. My wife and I sat up all night listening to the house creak and groan and I gained some serious respect for hurricanes. Here’s my house post Irma

First time ever I boarded up the windows and I am glad I did. No real damage other than the fence and the neighbor’s bird of paradise snapped off about 10 ft up and the top landed in my yard and wiped out my pool pump. I made out way better than my neighbor on the other end of the block

That's plenty close! We're inland enough that the only things that made it here were Ben and Harvey. Ben brought us torrential rain, but slowly enough that no major harm was done. Harvey, on the other hand, made it to ONE county SE of us. Realizing he was lost, and of course, refusing to ask directions, went back to Houston, and started inland on a second route! Harvey is why I bought my Tacoma and didn't wait for retirement.

Sitting at the Maui airport waiting to leave this paradise. It’s been an awesome week. We’re already planning our next trip back. Here’s a couple of general observations -
We were told by a native that they just love trucks here, especially Tacomas and to a lesser extent Tundras. Go by a dealership and they have all the trucks displayed in the very front. The is Taco paradise.
Traffic here is pretty bad (that surprises me). Worse than last time we were here.
Cost of living is very high here. Appears higher than California. Gas was averaging $5.20. Food in stores 20% + higher.
Cost of dining out astronomical. We had dinner at some upscale places. Cost of dinner last night at a very swanky Japanese including a bottle of wine was $385. I’m not complaining though. Food and service was beyond excellent. We knew going in what the prices were, we could have gone elsewhere but that’s where we wanted to eat and to us it was worth it, no complaints. Dinners other nights were all $200++. Again we could have gone to lower priced restaurants if we wanted.
The people here are really nice, pleasant, and helpful.
The ocean and scenery here are spectacular as are the sunsets.
There are a zillion things to do here, never bored for even a minute. A minuscule few include sight seeing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, helicopter rides around the island, luaus, boat tours, and on and on and on…..
It may not be for everyone but we are already planning a return visit.
    Back to reality. Aloha

Aloha @Sprig ! I know that trip is worth every penny. It's just paradise!
Meanwhile, back in the 48, I mowed, got my third Clear coat on the project parts, cleaned underhood, and me and a beer are going here...

That is one thing I will splurge on, is good restaurants. Not often, but then not often enough for me. We've been to some great ones. Some not very well known. Some that have since closed so I'm really glad we had the opportunity.

    Bon appetit...
