nah I bet if you got a real street legal dirt bike your dirt skills would really get built up and then transfer to the AT

I love my grom for around town. (have a few other bigger street legal bikes) I have a full milk crate on the back on a rack and its super useful for 90% of errand running, way easier to get to and from locations, park etc.

That stated, it isnt stock, its a 164cc bbk with a big valve head that i port matched and polished ports on and many other supporting mods. Full tuck it will do 70 but feels most comfortable around the 50-55mph mark.

The grom is by far the most ridden bike in my stable (maybe not miles wise but days of the week grom wins hands down).

I need to put my heated gear controller back on the bike with fresh batteries this weekend. I guess it's time to put away the mesh jacket and dig out the regular one too.

Speaking of cold weather..I tried out my klim inversion gloves the other morning when it was in the 40's out. They were awesome. They're almost a neoprene/wetsuit material on the tops, so zero wind gets in, but you can still feel heated grips through them. Downside is that I'm pretty sure they won't breath well on long rides, but I have less than a 10 minute commute so yolo.

She hasn't gotten back to me yet, but it'll probably happen, she might need to sell her v-star first.

Couldn't recall what your your GS is. Not sure if this is the right one.

Friend of mine went this route on his FJR. He's a MSF instructor with some roadracing experience from when he lived in Scotland so he knows a thing or 3 about bikes and set up. I considered it for my 2007 before it got destroyed and probably would have gone that route on my 2014 FJR if I hadn't stumbled across a used Penske for a steal.

That's a great option! I forgot about hyperpro. I actually have a set of their progressive front springs I ordered from touratech years ago but it looks like they're only carrying their own suspension now ($1000+).

Edit: ted porters beemershop has an about $500 rear shock option I was looking at too. Pretty bare bones though.

Questions for you gents. My 890r came stock with basically slicks on it. What type of tires is everyone running for good wet traction but still a good sticky tire for the dry weather. ?

Ooohhh....a tire question! On a Friday!

A lot depends on what you're expecting from your tires. Personally I prefer to stick with more of a sport-touring tire as I feel it gives me the best all around bang for the buck. I recently ran a set of Pirelli Angel GT's and they served me well with the exception of lifespan. Great handling in the dry, predictable enough in the rain, comfortable ride even 2-up but only lasted about 8.5k miles. This is on my FJR1300 which does weigh 642 pounds dry and sees a good variety of uses from commuting to long distance rides to playing in the twisties.

Currently I'm on Michelin PR4 GT's and have already bought another pair of the same as this might just be my new favorite tire. I have 9k on these since May 5 when I mounted them and they just passed PA state inspection less than 1500 miles ago. I expect almost another 2k are left in them so around 11k life span. Really good on dry roads and just as nice in the rain. Well balanced all around street tire. I used to love the Michelin PR2 and actually ran through 11-12 sets of them on FJRs. On your bike which should be lighter the PR4 should do well.

Thank you. I'm not sure how well I'd trust the tires that came stock in the rain. They are sticky as all hell on dry roads but have avoided riding the bike in the rain. They just don't look like they will fair well in the wet.

The less siping a tire has the less ability that tire has to shed water. Pretty straightforward. Flip side of that is that on a good dry surface the tire with less siping will not feel as "squirmy" from the various blocks of tread moving around. I no longer ride my Buell from my avatar pic that often or that far so I purposely picked a tire that will give me great traction and be awesome on dry roads as that bike is no longer a commuter or travel bike but just a nice weather toy.

Choose your tire according to your intentions.
