Spent 24hrs more or less straight on cleaning up, organizing, and improving in the shop, replaced my highest fluorescent lights with LED, the rest will come eventually though I did swap out some dead tubes in the other housings, and hung a ceiling fan that was bumped from the house for being too early early 90's. (Probably original to the house...)

Ah the ceiling fan saga...


So you can see here it has an aluminum angle brace...




It has a brace because it clears the lift by only 4" and I didn't want any potential standing oscillations to allow it into a collision pattern with the lift especially potentially generated by either blade droop from humidity, extra lift on the one side from close proximity to the lift, or induced from pulling the long long speed pull chain.



I wanted the fan dropped off the ceiling a bit so it had "breathing room" for circulation meaning it's super stubby drop rod that it came with was too short (and short enough that the blades would be very close to the pitches of the roof) and my quick dirty measurements would have had it perfect when using the silver spare old drop rod I had laying around, appropriately 7" of clearance.


Except the fan was too old so the drop rod was incompatible something I didn't consider and I didn't have anything else sized appropriately so I did what's natural to a figure it out'er and put a magnet to both the original 3" rod and my 2' rod, both ferrous so I figured I could weld them, (it's 3am mind you) so I cut the old 3" rod in half ground all the ends and welded the 1.5" ends to the long rod but in my infinite wisdom and good shop practice of measure once cut twice (and the damn thing is still too short!) I somehow forgot to carry the frog (Egyptian algebra reference) and that perfect length rod was now 5" longer. I was considering 1" into the ball and 1" into the fan of the new rod but didn't remove that from it when adding the 3" of original rod which was further modified slightly adding to length again.


Ultimately though, it works so maybe one day it will be rehashed appropriately, however function far supercedes appearances for the time being.


It's just a blessing to have space to work at all for the first time ever.

Space which I took full advantage of when I used it to put new (used and refreshed) Camburg arms on to replace my old clapped out All-Pro's.



It's incredible to me how that little bit of pivot position relocation drastically improved handling and ride quality.




And it's so nice to be able to work inside in the shade out of the rain and bugs.

Still deathly humid though.

Their roasting factory and gift shop are amazing, they even have a coffee taste testing course. They have extensive tropical gardens, a koi pond and a 4 story fire tower kind of thing to see the surrounding area.

 

I put Schlage in my own house. I used to reykey those and Kwikset at my old job, and the Schlage was definitely built better. Reminds me I need to order a rekey kit as I have one lock that isn't the same key.

 

Sure could have used Cole to ride this lawnmower around for a few hours today.

Time for spray on insulation and an air conditioner.

 

Heh, I could do without the AC, but I need the heat! Luckily I have that big torpedo heater!

Well bees are strapped in will see what this storm wants to do, on shift tommorow so wanted to get all live stock squared away and Sunday will know the main track and board up for the family got all the prep work done. I’ll be on duty Tuesday and will most likely be held over till it passes. @Hunterdc1 you guys park that bird in the garage yet

 

He has a fairly big space, being cheap he could get a used mobile home package unit, 3 wires and 2 ducts and you are cooling. They are usually rated around 2 tons (24,000 btu) and have a powerful blower.

I scored one at an auction years ago, never got around to installing it naturally.
The garage is made of block so those projects are a bit more complicated.

 

Well, the things that make you want to say ...
We were sitting in the living room last night about 9 and heard a tremendous thump like someone hit the roof with a sledgehammer.



Wife gave a surprised yell, I gave a knowing swear.

It didn't fall on the roof in the lumberjack "timber" way, it blew out of the tree and planted butt first, I heard it -- "bam" (the butt) then slap "fwoosh" (the greenery)...



Punched a good fist size hole in the roof, guess I know what is on the agenda for tomorrow...



Roof should have been replaced about 15 years ago...

 

You have some kind of rabid squirrel beaver there?

 

There are 2 maple trees that tower over the house in the back, the bases are almost 4 feet across. They aren't "good" trees from the lumber standpoint as in nice and straight, they have all sorts of random direction limbs, probably from being broken by the wind so many times over the years.

The wind routinely tears parts out of them, I have been cleaning it up for years.
The bit that fell isn't rotten, it just lost out to the wind up here on the top of the hill.
